Not exactly. It's a pretty good investment if you're into hardcore performance coupes with a bit of a history and a loyal following. I should knowI drove one recently for a week. And a while back, before were all on Facebook and Twitter, I had the opportunity to sit down with Matt Davis, a Ford guy through and through, to hear about the performance-oriented version of its successful compact car.

I think you're asking the right question because the best answer I can give you is that the product team has been hard at work on performance since about 1994 when a new model would come out and it's an important part of the portfolio. So, I asked if we might be expecting a new model soon that would offer up a new RS. And Matt said, "Well, we're working on two or three different versions for performance. In fact, I can give you a sense that probably the first version will be the RS, and there may be other things like it that are introduced as it's developed in time."

At that point, I mentioned how much I had enjoyed my time in the Focus RS. Which he agreed was a nice experience, and one that should continue to receive attention.

Davis said that I wouldn't see a huge change in performance between the current RS and this year's version. And what I was able to testas well as learn about the history and traditionwas really quite intriguing.

The first thing that struck me when I drove the car is that there was no turbocharger under the hood. He told me that there are things going on under the hood that no one sees. There's a turbocharged engine under the hood. There are no turbos in the car.

Instead, it employs the same E85 direct injection 1.0-liter turbocharged engine that's been used in the Ford Fusion. But the company doesn't want to talk about the details of that engine.

It's interesting that in this case, where they are going for straightline speed, they don't think it's something that will make people jealous. And they have a point, too. After all, a V-8 Mustang is priced similarly.

Is Ford making a Focus RS in 2025?

The Ford Focus RS is the only true rally car that we know of. But the latest rumors indicate that it might be making its return in 2026 to compete against new challengers including the BMW M3 and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

According to Motorsport.com, the return of the RS isn't a given. In fact, they went as far as to mention it as a giant question mark for the American automaker. The idea is not a new one, as we have already seen this concept made by FCA's Alfa Romeo division several years ago. This is an official image by WardsAuto, depicting the 2026 Focus RS in disguise. It is unclear if it is a concept or a full production unit.

It is the only car in Ford's lineup that is currently available in both coup and hatchback body styles. The Focus RS is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine rated at 380 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Its performance puts it on par with the likes of the Lamborghini Huracn and the Mercedes-AMG GT S. According to their sources, the return of the Focus RS could also be the launch of the next-generation GT, while the Shelby GT500 will remain the current variant.

I want to see a high-speed video of the F-150 RS pickup, so I can see how big of a difference between the F-150 and the Raptor will be on the race track. I would hope it could beat a R35 with a good driver, which is about 2 seconds slower than the F-150 at the time, not that many years ago.

I don't really care for the idea of the Focus RS returning, but from a purely 'form and function' standpoint, it looks awesome! It is an odd hybrid coupe with two doors, but that's pretty cool. Just the sheer length of the vehicle combined with the lack of doors to hold you down make for a much more comfortable driving position. I think it looks better than the ECTO ST1.
