What is the difference between a Freightliner M2 106 and 112?

My company is currently looking to purchase a truck. I've heard that the Freightliner M2 106 is a nice truck for light-duty work, while the Freightliner M2 112 is used for medium to heavy-duty work. Are there any major differences between these two trucks? What would be the difference in price and capabilities between them? Are the 112s built the same as 106s? The 106's Allison is 5 speed and weighs over 1000lbs less than the 112.

The 106 is cheaper to fuel than the 112, as fuel consumption is based on the gross vehicle weight. But as has been said, there is a big difference in price, and both trucks are pretty capable - it depends on what your needs are. Thanks to everyone for the quick responses! My main concern is that the 112 seems to be slightly larger than the 106, which may increase the size of the hauling area. Is this an accurate assumption? And does the 112 have any other noteworthy differences? Thank you all for the help! I really appreciate it. And yes, the M112 is larger, the M106 is a bit smaller. But you can make up almost 10K in savings by getting one with a 727 and a few other options (or any of the 6 speeds) rather than the 6 speeds/allison.

And the 112s are not cheaper to fuel than the 106s. It depends on the driving conditions and where you live, but a fuel economy calculator should show you how much the extra cost of the 112 affects your daily fuel cost. If it's something like 25 or 30%, and you don't do many trips where that extra money would mean a huge savings, then the cost of a 112 isn't that much higher than that of a 106.

Thanks for the help! I'm still very interested in the truck. It's more an aesthetic preference as opposed to anything else. So long as it'll fit into my garage and hold all of my things without any problem, I should be fine.

How much horsepower does a Freightliner M2 112 have?

Answers. Freightlinerm2 112whp. A truck can have a lot of different horsepower, depending on what you want to do with it. Freightliners have a lot of options available for the M2. I think you will see more like 140-180 hp in the majority of cases. You can find out more information by reading the Owner's Manual. It is not listed in the "Technical Data" section, but there is a reference to the engine in the "Information" section.

I don't think you can get much more than what I got with my M2. It's around 200-250 hp. I'm pretty sure I could get another 200hp by replacing the turbo and tuning it up. But I don't think I would get anything else. The power delivery is just so great, that I don't think I would want to change it. You can get as much power as you like with the M2. However, it is a very expensive engine. Also, it is not common for people to put all that power in one vehicle. The power in a typical commercial vehicle (pickup) is usually around 1,000-1,500 hp. Some of those engines are very large. Most people do not need or want to spend that kind of money on a truck.

I am assuming the M2 you have is the 2.8 V6.
