The all-new Cascadia Evolution gets up to 18 miles per gallon in the city, and up to 23 mpg on the highway. It will be available exclusively through the Freightliner authorized dealer network.
What's it like to drive? Unlike other pickup trucks available today, the Cascadia Evolution doesn't have a traditional cab over bed configuration; instead, all of the load hauling space is provided in the truck frame under the front passenger seat. This gives the Cascadia Evolution an open, spacious feel inside. And although many of its competitors offer rear-seat or third-row configurations that can accommodate passengers, the Evolution can carry two adults in full comfort with room for one more if needed, and still have access to their own storage in the large cargo box.
What are the advantages of the Freightliner Cascadia Evolution? While the Freightliner Cascadia Evolution uses the same frame, powertrain and cabin as the Freightliner ProStar trucks, this new design does more than simply replace other trucks in the Cascadia Evolution line. The vehicle has been completely reworked to offer better handling and better ride quality than in previous models. The body is constructed using high-strength aluminum that offers significant weight savings, a quieter cabin, and a lower center of gravity than the comparable steel body.
What are the engine specs? Most important for those who want to haul large loads, the Cascadia Evolution is powered by a Cummins 5.9-liter V-8 diesel producing 320 horsepower at 4000 rpm and 468 pound-feet of torque at 1800 rpm. There is also an optional 6.7-liter Duramax turbo-diesel that produces 355 horsepower at 2025 rpm and a whopping 785 pound-feet of torque at 1900 rpm.
What about all-wheel drive? It's offered on all models, including the Duramax, to provide extra traction in a variety of conditions. All-wheel drive is standard on the base model; it is optional on other trucks.
What about fuel economy? The EPA has not yet determined its official fuel economy numbers, but it's said to between 19 and 18 mpg in the city and 21 and 23 mpg on the highway, depending on the configuration. At current exchange rates, those numbers translate into 17 to 15.

The engine is a GM 6.2L Turbo Diesel V8. The specs on the truck itself show a 5.9L V8 as well, but I'm unsure if it's a diesel or gas engine. The engine in a Freightliner is more fuel efficient than the 4 cylinder diesel engines. It gets up to 17 mpg highway with the 6. The 4 cylinder gets 16 mpg highway with diesel.
In the early 2000s, GM had a Freightliner plant in Joliet Illinois that was the center of their fleet operations. They were going to build the new Freightliner Cascadia using the 5.9L V8 from the F-Series trucks, and a 6.7L turbodiesel that would get 18 mpg highway.
However, the company went bankrupt in 2025. The 5.9L became the "new" 6.2L for the F-Series, and the 6.7L went to the GMT350 trucks.
When I worked at a truck dealership in the mid 2000s, we sold a lot of Freightliner trucks. The Cascadia was the most popular model, but there was also a Cascadia MAX. We were told that the 6.2L would eventually be offered as an option for the MAX (similar to how the 6.
Is Freightliner Cascadia Evolution a good truck?
The Freightliner Cascadia Evolution and Cascadia are very similar trucks, in fact they come from the same company Freightliner. The two truck lines are about as similar as a Honda Accord is to a Toyota Camry. One key difference however; The Cascadia has a larger diesel engine than the Evolution and the standard engine has more power than the Evolution. With a 5.9-liter engine in the Cascadia it makes 180 HP while the 3.8-liter engine in the Freightliner Evolution has 190 HP. So with that said should you buy the Cascadia or the Evolution. Well as always we like to get to the source so that you can make the best decision for yourself.
Here are 4 reasons you should buy the Freightliner Cascadia Evolution. The engine is an all steel engine meaning that it is strong and sturdy, unlike the light weight of most diesel engines. It is also durable meaning that it's meant to last! DIMENSIONS. This is going to be an area where people could argue. Most truck owners who want the higher spec option would rather have the Evolution over the Cascadia. The bigger Cascadia has four doors meaning more seats and an easy to load cargo area. The bigger evolution has only three seats but one extra door for an extra seat!
You can get a few features on the Cascadia at a higher price than you could on the Evolution but it won't matter what you look at them both side by side and they are very similar. So the bottom line is that both options are very good. You have options in both but the better spec truck will cost more! The engine is what is making the biggest difference for us.
The all-electric FUELE. The FUELE is different from anything out there. We want everyone to be excited about this truck but let's also keep in mind that it still needs the right equipment and the right people to handle it.
We are very excited about the possibilities here but it is not something we are actively promoting at the moment. We do however see the possibilities that could occur with these trucks if the right people are involved. We would not recommend anyone buying one to then have it delivered to them and then take a gamble, that is not something we like doing!

Do you consider a Freightliner Evolution as bad or a Freightliner Cascadia as excellent and reliable freightliner truck? Why your answers? We do have experience with Evolution and Cascadia and we have always found this distinction very strange and we did not know the actual difference. Is the Freightliner Cascadia truck inferior to the Evolution? This is not the difference of the model years. The Freightliner Cascadia is a brand new line and it comes with very limited service, maintenance & warranty coverage compared to the Freightliner Evolution. We think that the Freightliner Cascadia is not even the same truck as Freightliner Evolution at all.
