What engine problems did the Mk2 Focus RS have?

One of the best things that could happen for me in 2024 was that I managed to snag a Mk2 Focus RS by the end of the year. In terms of performance, the Focus stands up as one of the most enjoyable cars I've driven in recent years, and arguably one of the best you can buy in this price bracket. But despite all the technical advances that have gone into the car, I still didn't feel like it was the right fit for me.

Instead, I left feeling that the Focus is the right car for anyone with a thirst for speed and a passion for driving. Let's start with a fact that's easy to forget about the Focus RS: it's still a front-wheel-drive car. And that's a good thing.

It's also easy to forget, because all the attention that's been given to the launch of the new Focus over the past six months has focused on what I'll term 'the technology'. The RS's new 2.3-litre turbo-four is the headline here, producing 316bhp and 295lb ft of torque, but it's the car's suspension and dynamics that are its true heart.

You'll notice straightaway that it's got stiffer springs and dampers than the standard car, and it's a much firmer ride, too.
