Recall of Honda SUVs
The affected model is the Honda CR-V SUV, which is made at the company's Swindon plant. The recall covers almost one in three of these vehicles, and is to address a fault in the driver's side door, which can lead to it catching alight.
It is thought that 77,000 customers who bought the vehicle, which was constructed between 2002 and 2006, will be contacted by the Japanese carmaker. The global recall will affect almost half a million vehicles worldwide.
Honda have previously been known for being extremely reliable. The fault comes in the shape of an insufficient seal on a window switch on the drivers door. According to Honda, it is possible for liquids to leak into this switch, which can then cause it to overheat. This overheating can then, in certain circumstances, lead to a fire.
Owners are being instructed to return their vehicles to their local Honda dealer to repair the switch. It is thought only vehicles built between 2002 and 2006 are affected, which means the second series of CR-V SUVs.
