Recall of almost a quarter of a million cars by Toyota
Of the Prius cars recalled, 30,000 are thought to have been sold in Europe, whilst all of the recalled Lexus sedans were only sold in Japan and the US. Affected vehicles were manufactured in 2009 between March and October, whilst the affected Lexus hybrids were manufactured between June and October the same year.
The recall has been issued after problems with the parts that regulate break pressure. During usage these could be subject to vibrations, which could eventually cause parts to crack when under pressure. These cracks could then cause a lack of response when braking, which as you can easily understand is not desirable. Toyota has said that the potential problem has not yet been responsible for any injuries or accidents. Nevertheless they have sparked off numerous statements of discontent from owners.
Toyota is unfortunately no stranger to recall campaigns. During 2009 and 2010 they had to recall over 9 million vehicles, again due to problems with brakes and brake parts. And again in 2012 they issued a recall of nearly 7 and a half million vehicles to remedy faulty power window electronics.
