Why are the cost of an airstream expensive? They are very heavy and expensive to manufacture, transport and ship. There's lots of things that go into them. They won't be moving it from one place to another. They are going to use it for years and years. So a lot of people that buy an airstream are really buying it because it's a "lifestyle" and they'll be living in it for many years. I don't know if that helps with the cost of building one.

I'm starting a thread for those who use an airstream to travel around the US, Canada and Mexico. I want to know how you like your airstream, why you decided to make the choice to buy one, what airframe you use and what model you have, and how you like it. I also want to know about any of your experiences with your airstream and your opinions about how the manufacturer has done with their product.

I have traveled in mine many times, but only once in a truck cab and once as a camper. Both trips were in Florida, so I haven't used it in the winter, but I'm planning on putting it in my pickup next year.

I have a 10' x 16' model 514B, with the Airstream aluminum roof. I chose it because it seemed like a good value, but more importantly, I could afford it. I'm so happy with it that I bought a second one a few months ago to add to my fleet of one.

I love having a separate compartment in the back of my truck. It's much more comfortable than sleeping in a tent, and if I have a long trip ahead of me, I can leave it at a campground and continue on foot. I've used it as a camper on at least ten occasions, and I'd rather sleep inside than in the back of my car or in a hotel room. The bed is so comfy, and it's just a real pleasure to wake up and see a beautiful day outside.

The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of room for storage. The space in the back is barely big enough to hold a few duffle bags, so my wife and I usually have to bring our camping gear along with us.
