I have a friend who is considering buying a new to her or him motorhome. She has already narrowed it down to three models - two from the early nineties and one of the newer models. The two older models were built from the same manufacturer and the one she now favors was the least expensive of the three. I've already read the positive and negative attributes about all three.

I'm curious to know what the differences are between all of them. How do they compare in size, interior space, number of exterior windows, etc. They look very similar on the outside and some of the descriptions I've read indicate that the newer model has more luxurious and more features.

I'm sure there must be other differences between all three of them. Anyone have experience with any of them? I'd be interested in hearing what they are.

Comments. For the last 2 years I have been working at a motor home dealer. My favorite vehicle is the 1999 model Gulfstream GV. It comes with lots of options, good quality appliances, very spacious inside, good seating, lots of cabinetry, full galley kitchen. Very nice bath too! The only issue is it is extremely light. At times the floor slants badly.

I have an '98 model which was lightly used. It has had a total rehab job done, and is very comfortable. I had a 98 model for many years before I started looking for a new one.

If you really want to try your luck and buy a model which is old enough to have been built right, you can have a good chance at success. Find someone who will take a chance with one of these old vehicles. They are worth a lot of money these days.

Thanks. I just ordered a GV for my wife because I didn't want to get into the RV thing with the kids. That's right, a guy who buys an old beat up Ford Pick Up Truck so he can take his family on the camping trips they always used to go on.

For me, and for the rest of my family I think a large motorhome would be a very big undertaking, even if there was room for all of us. We're not big folks, but I have trouble imagining being able to sleep in a space that large.

What class RV is best to live in?

This is the class of RV I'm after. I'm not so big on the slide outs and I don't really want a lot of storage in the back. I'm looking for a small camper to sleep 2 and have a place for storage. It can be a travel trailer, pop up camper, etc but I really want to stay with the slide out fold out awning. I want tow it to Florida once we decide where we want to settle down. Just want to see what's the average size in price and what kind of RV would best for us (we are a little nervous about RV living). Thanks!

You've asked 2 questions that probably are not 100% compatible, ie an indoor camping experience vs. Road trips. Depending upon how you intend to use your camper, one or the other will work best. As an example, our "home" is a 6'8" Airstream Century III. If we live in it with my wife and kids, then it would best suited for road trips, but when my mom wants a break from the city, she moves to the back. For her, it is an interior cabin-cabins like this provide the best of both worlds. You would have ample living space and privacy, and also an "in house" kitchen where mom has her own space.

If, on the other hand, you plan to do lots of camping and spend much time at camp sites, you need a unit better suited for that purpose. Some campers, such as the pop-ups and tans, provide a roomy interior area with a sleeping loft that provides a sense of safety and privacy, while the pop-ups also offer great interior height, thus keeping you at eye level with a tent. A tent-like approach means staying in smaller campsites, especially in places where there are lots of others. If you spend much time camping, then you need a camper that does not have slide-outs, since they prevent you from packing your gear close to the back wall, which is the key to most small campsite success.
