How much is the Mustang Mach-E premium?

How much is the Mustang Mach-E premium?

Why is Ford discontinuing Mach-E?

It seems like Ford Motor Company has done an about face and is now releasing a completely new, more expensive version of its electric crossover. The name will remain the same, though, as the vehicle is a 2026 Ford Mach-E. It's based on the third generation of the vehicle that was introduced in 2026, with a new set of styling cues, a new drivetrain, and even a new interior design. Is this a good thing or bad thing for the company?

When the first generation of the Mach-E debuted in 2026, it offered a range of only 90 miles per charge. For 2026, Ford increased the range to 100 miles, and promised that the 2026 model would increase it again to around 200 miles. That plan is no longer the case.

The 2026 Ford Mach-E will only have a 100 mile range, and the price is likely to increase substantially as a result. What changed? The most obvious answer is the addition of more batteries, as well as a larger battery. Ford says that the 2026 model will have 1,100 watt hours (Wh) of battery capacity. That is 100 Wh more than the 2026 model had.

The 2026 Ford Mach-E will still have a single motor and single-speed transmission. As the name implies, it will be powered by electric motors, not internal combustion engines. There will be a single motor, and the vehicle will feature a single-speed transmission. It will also be a zero emission vehicle. It doesn't get much more straightforward than that.

Ford says that the 2026 model will be capable of reaching 100 miles per charge in about 10 minutes, but that will only happen at peak power. A full charge will take about eight hours, and a complete charge will take 36 hours. Ford's website says that charging should be completed at any time, so there is no need to be constrained by the limitations of the vehicle's capacity.

Is a Mach-E faster than a Tesla?

In the last couple of years, Tesla Motors has made significant improvements in the Model S, adding a long list of features that make the car more accessible to the consumer. After all, Tesla's business model is to sell expensive cars to a small number of affluent customers, and a new affordable car would be a direct hit to their bottom line. That car would supposedly be the basis for a whole new sub-brand called Tesla, and the Tesla Model E would be the cheap car that would serve as the foundation for the Tesla brand. The other sub-brands would be reserved for the more expensive vehicles.

As part of the Tesla plan, the company would make all its cars in California, which would give it a major advantage over the other carmakers. But now it seems that Tesla is taking a step back, because Elon Musk said in a recent interview with Re/code that he doesn't really want to make a cheap car. The first thing you should note about that quote is that it is not what the reporter asked, but Musk decided to answer that question. This, obviously, would contradict his earlier statement.

The Mach-E's performance is likely to be good, though not mind-blowing. It will share its engines with the next-gen 2026 Shelby GT500, and there is speculation that it will also have twin-turbo versions of Ford's new 2.7L V6, with the same twin-scroll-tip design that we saw in the Corvette ZR1 and Z06. That engine is rated at 455 hp, but it's unlikely that it'll see official production. Instead, it's likely that the Mach-E will use the 626-hp 2.3L twin-turbo V6 that's currently found in the Ford GT. It's a more efficient engine, but it's too small for the Mach-E.

Power is front-mounted, and should be quite quick, but in reality, it's unlikely to be particularly quick off the line. The Mach-E will come standard with adaptive dampers, which are expected to offer a very linear damping force curve, not just a stiffer ride than the outgoing base GT. You can also order adaptive dampers with comfort settings, but only if you're willing to pay a little extra. They're also optional on the base GT, and we expect they'll be standard on the Mach-E.

In either case, we expect the dampers to offer a lot of grip, which will be good news for the Mach-E's performance. And we expect the Mach-E to have lots of grip, especially on the back roads where it's likely to make its bread and butter.

The Mach-E will have two electric motors, one for the rear axle and another for the front wheels, and we expect the combination to offer around 400 hp.
