UK automotive production up again in November
In total, 142,825 cars were produced in November in the UK, which means that in total, Britain's automotive industry has built over 1.36 million vehicles this year. This is an increase of 9.2% over the same period of 2011. On the other hand, the output of commercial vehicles fell by 3.6% last month, with only 10,974 being produced. Overall during the year, commercial vehicle production has dropped by 5.9%.
The production of engines, typically a flagship British item, also dropped during last month, with 223,853 being produced at a decline of 1.4%. The year's output remains pretty stable though, with just a 0.3% drop over 2012.
The chief executive of SMMT, Paul Everitt, commented: "The global appeal of UK-built products is a key factor in the strength of our manufacturing sector, supported by world leading productivity and a dedicated and flexible workforce. This is good news, but there can be no room for complacency; the development of a long-term industrial strategy and consistent support by government is essential to secure future success and more opportunities for the UK-based supply chain."
