Admiral travel insurance provides comprehensive cover for you and your family while on holiday or travelling abroad. Does Admiral travel insurance cover pre-existing medical conditions?
I have an EHIC but I'm worried about the following: If I get a severe medical emergency and need to be admitted to a hospital abroad for more than 2 weeks, is my travel insurance cover going to cover the cost? And will my health insurance back home cover any follow up costs? The reason I'm asking is that I have a fairly nasty pre-existing condition, and don't want to pay 1,000 out of my own pocket if I need to be admitted, especially as I will probably need an IV drip at some point. Also, there seems to be quite a few questions on here about travel insurance covering surgery, and in one case it was actually recommended. If anyone has any experience with this, I would be very grateful for your advice.
There are a couple of other points to consider though. 1) you may well be considered part of the EEA if you live here for long term (5 years) this means no work restrictions or tax (and you do not need to register for a PPS number) if you are treated in the UK from time to time you can still claim benefit - see here for further info. 2) even if you are considered 'Euromembers' - your travel insurance might not cover all of your needs, eg you would be required to take out a European Health Insurance Card before you go, which would not be covered by your travel insurance policy.
