October sales rise by 13.2% for BMW Group
For sales of BMW, Rolls-Royce and Mini vehicles, for the month of October this is a new record best figure, and a healthy return to double-figures of sales growth. So far in 2012, sales for the BMW group have scaled to 1,493,153 vehicles, which when compared to the same timeframe last year, when 1,371,903 motors were sold, is a rise of 8.8%, and a new all-time record for the carmaker.
The world's biggest luxury automobile manufacturer experienced a huge sales surge in Asia, with sales in October rising by 36.5% over the same time period of the previous year, selling 41,028 vehicles over the previous amount of 30,067. China accounted for the majority of these sales, because of an increase in locally-produced 3 Series and X1 vehicles.
BMW also saw firm growth in the Americas, increasing their sales by 20% in October over the same time last year, selling 39,154 vehicles compared with 32,626. Sales in Europe were less enduring, with sales at 71,368 in October, compared with 71,587 vehicles in October last year; so in all, a small decline of -0.3% in sales.
A member of the board of management of BMW AG responsible for sales and marketing, Ian Robertson, commented: "Following a record third quarter, the BMW Group posted its highest ever sales for the month of October. We achieved solid gains in many of our markets last month, especially in Asia and the Americas and we aim to continue the momentum in the next months. We are well on course to achieve a new sales record in 2012, despite the headwind present in some European markets."
