Are BMW 3 Series expensive to run?
BMW 3 Series have achieved a reputation for being one of the more powerful and fuel efficient cars in the market. The engine options for these cars are vast and include the 2.5L V6 as well as the 2.0L turbodiesel. So, is it expensive to run?
To answer this, you will need to know the difference between running costs and ownership costs. A vehicle running costs will only cover the expenditure for the car such as fuel and maintenance, whereas the ownership costs will cover all other expenses such as insurance, road tax and MOTs.
BMW 3 Series running costs. The BMW 3 Series runs on unleaded petrol and has a maximum power output of 177bhp, which is only slightly more than the 2.0L turbo diesel. However, the 3 Series still benefits from an impressive torque output of 300Nm (223lb ft), which is higher than most of its rivals.
This makes it quick, with a 0-60mph time of 6.9 seconds. It does struggle to reach top speed and achieves just 118mph in the combined test. This is due to the engine's limited power output and also due to the relatively low weight of the car.
Fuel consumption varies a little from the manual version to the automatic as expected. The manual version manages to return 37.1mpg, whereas the automatic returns 38.4mpg. The efficiency of the 3 Series is therefore very good, which is particularly impressive when you consider the number of engine options available to the car.
The 3 Series also manages to achieve CO2 emissions of around 148g/km, which is slightly higher than the 2. The reason for this is that the automatic comes with a higher engine rev limit, which allows the engine to use more fuel to produce more power.
If you do choose to drive the 3 Series fully manually, you will notice that there is a considerable difference between the manual and automatic versions of the car. On average, the automatic 3 Series manages to return 29.8mpg, whereas the manual only manages 27.5mpg. This is mainly due to the fact that the automatic version is equipped with an eco-mode.
Even when it comes to running costs, the BMW 3 Series is a brilliant choice.
Is the BMW 3 Series reliable?
I'm about to buy the 3 Series Touring and I'm getting nervous. After reading about BMW's warranty I think it will work out fine, but I want to make sure. There is no such thing as a free lunch!
I've been thinking about it, and it has me worried that when I do get the car I may have to take my car to the dealer every month, like I do with my Chevy. Is this a fair statement? What if it happens more often? We bought our 3 series in June 2023 from a BMW dealer and have had no issues whatsoever. We also had an 06 320d 2.0L sedan and a 93 325is sedan which we used for over three years. Since then we have owned two 645ci V8's in a 2023 BMW (one for 6 months and one for almost 2 years), an i3 and our current 645ci Z4 for 10 months. I'm very happy with our cars and I believe the current BMW is as good if not better than them.
We don't plan to change. Well they don't offer the E90 3er extended warranty so far as I know. If the extended warranty were to start you should be fine for the first 5-6 years of ownership if you're careful with maintaining your vehicle.
The BMW warranty covers 100% of all mechanical work, but it does not cover the cost of labor. You are responsible for the labor if it becomes necessary to service the car. This is probably the most important thing to keep in mind. A lot of people think a BMW dealership is really just a front to collect payment from the warranty.
I would just buy the car from a BMW dealer, not the one where you currently work. It will cost you a bit more, but the hassle and time involved in being a salesman is not worth it. Just go to the showroom and see it for yourself. If you don't like it, move on.
I was going to use the car for business and then sell it.

This is the final model for the BMW 3 series to come to the United States. I have been driving this model all around Denver Colorado for 6 months now, and I gotta say I absolutely love the car. This one has all the right things that makes a great BMW driver with style and class.
You can pick up the car with either a 6-Speed manual or Automatic transmission. I'm not gonna go into the engine and specs, just look at it. But you can definitely tell that this was made to be a true sports car. And if you're new to these awesome cars, take a look at how they put an M badge on your head without getting your head cut off!
The ride quality is amazing, the way they designed this car its got enough space in the back seat for you and your family to be comfortable, AND if you add in the features and technology theres even more of a reason to buy this car. If I can drive an E46 M3 for 25k thats insane! Check out the vid to see how awesome it is.

Here are some pics from the past month. (All the pics I took with my iPhone while commuting). And that's a wrap guys thanks again for reading. When I bought my 325i the color was Midnight Blue Metallic. Now it's Silver Ice Metallic. Pretty cool looking car, as you said, but I do have a couple modifications. I have a sport suspension and H&R springs and the stock brakes are all replaced. Not big time upgrades, but the 335is seems to be the same.
