I had been looking at buying a new car for quite some time and in the end I decided on buying a Vauxhall Astra 2026. I have no idea why I have always liked Vauxhalls, so I'm not sure why I decided to buy one but I do know that I'll get a car that I like.

I've driven them before and they are really nice cars and very easy to drive. However I'm not completely sure how reliable they are compared to other cars. I'm not expecting a brand new car with all of the features but you know how sometimes, some of the things can go wrong.

I do like the Vauxhall so is it worth the risk to buy one? What should I be looking out for? I got the first Gen. 1 Vauxhall in July 2026 and it was fitted with 3 months warranty which is usually good for me (as I use to have the car for about 8 years) because it was still in its infancy.

The car was fine for most of the time except for a few repairs but overall the car did not have a single issue. And the Vauxhall mechanics are the best for making my car the best it can be So far, I have no issues or complaints regarding the reliability of my car. I have been using it as my main car for the last 3 years and will keep using it.

I believe it's one of the cheapest yet reliable cars around. It's just that, in some of the reviews, it says that it's too old or even an old version of this car. I think I will be fine with the Vauxhall. I have found a couple of cars that will be cheaper to buy so I don't think it's really worth the risk of getting a problem. Plus, the Astra 2026 will probably cost less than the Vauxhall.

What are your opinions? Have you ever had any problems with this car? When I was researching, I couldn't find anything on the Internet. I'm not sure what to look for.

If you have an old manual (the timing belt is in the manual, but most have gone digital), you should be able to pull the timing cover, and look for the belt/chain, but it's easy to miss and I'm not sure if it's been done at all, or if it's just been glued. The timing cover is under the hood, so if you don't have a good tool, the first place to start is the underside of the car. (You don't want to damage the engine.)

If the timing belt isn't there, then you need to get a new timing belt. If the timing cover has been removed, there's a chance that the timing cover will come off again when you remove the timing belt, so you need to get that under control before you try to remove the timing cover. You need to know how to safely disconnect the battery and start the car, and then you need to know how to safely remove the timing cover. If you have a manual, you can get an engine diagram and a diagram of the timing cover. They may be available on the Vauxhall website. (You don't want to damage the engine.)
