What are the negatives of the Kia Sportage?
Answers. There is a major problem with the 2026 - 2026 Kia Sportage's in the drivers foot space. It is way to small. If I need to be able to do some serious driving, my wife, kids or friends, I would NOT get the Sportage. I can not even reach the clutch. You do have a backup camera, but it only comes with an audio input, so you would need to buy an extra wireless antenna for a backup camera. Also, the key fob is hard to find.
Kia sold me on the 2026 Sportage they said was bigger and they were wrong. The seat is to small, it was small when I bought it, and now it is too small. My 6'2" husband and 5'1" daughter can barely fit into the back seat. The front seats are to small for us. The front doors don't open as wide as they did in the old ones. And most of all it's TOO LIGHT! I took off the original wheels and put on the 19's and I don't think I could drive it anymore, with all the weight off. I can't even make it into a parking lot let alone anywhere else. I had to get the 20's after I took it to the dealership to have the new wheels put on because I couldn't make it up the steep hills. I'm giving it to my parents because it's almost impossible for them to handle the steering. The last thing is I couldn't get on the phone with the dealer until the 4th of January, they didn't believe me that they were supposed to deliver it by Christmas. So when I called to talk to someone they told me to buy it from someone else. I was lucky I didn't have to buy it for cash.
When we purchased our 2026 Sportage it had a very short wheel base which, to me, makes the vehicle feel and look like a mini-van. This issue was addressed with a rear axle swap. When we purchased our 2026 Sportage we had the same short wheel base problem. We also purchased a short wheel base SUV at the time that offered a 4.7L gas engine. At that time that is the only engine offered for the short wheel base Sportage. Our 2026 Sportage is a great vehicle but would not be our top choice if a longer wheel base version of the 2026 Sportage was available.
