Is Hyundai Tucson considered a luxury car?
Is the Hyundai Tucson a good car?
It's a small crossover with a lot of room. It's also the first of four new Tucson's from Hyundai that will hit the road this year others include the new Tucson, Santa Fe SUV and ix25 compact.
But it's no longer a Hyundai.e. It now belongs to Kia and has been renamed as the Kia Stinger. Its official introduction was held in Detroit where Hyundai CEO Chung Eui-sun unveiled the crossover while Kia North America CEO James Schawbel and Global Design Director Steve Hywood took a few questions from journalists about the new SUV which will take on Audi and Mercedes for second place in the C-segment.
There's a new badge on the rear bumper, but it's not what you might think. Stinger is Kia's new word for the term Stingray. This was the brand name used on its early compact and subcompact offerings starting from 2025. The Kia Stinger badge means the same compact crossover that has been around now for a few years. There is a difference between the Tucson and Stinger though the latter comes with an all-wheel drive option versus the former that gets just front wheel drive.
The name is part of Kia's latest change to help its cars stand out. There have been many design changes.
The Stinger uses Kia's new second-gen platform that uses carbon fiber. It's lighter than the first platform that came in last year's K900, which made it feel top heavy. This is one of those times when looking at the interior and thinking that it looks smaller or lower compared to the last model of the line. It also means there is no center console (or large armrest) in the new Kia Stinger. That feels odd since the last model had both. Hyundai has gone this direction in other areas as well such as its redesigned Genesis G70. It also has had an active grille option on top models for some time. Other changes include the headlights which are now LED instead of HID like on last model.
Inside the new Kia Stinger we can see there is not much change in looks or content. The only different part is the gauges in the center stack which look more Kia-like than Hyundai.
Why is Tucson so expensive?
Why do the salaries keep going up? Where's my competition for good jobs? Why do the big stores go away, and the smaller ones come in?
If you have the answers to those questions, I'm guessing you can figure out how to get a job here without spending much more than half your paycheck. Or maybe you're lucky enough to have made it, and can get by on a lot less.
But this city is full of people trying to find their places on the economic ladder -- and they've got lots of questions. The answer is, "Tucson isn't really that expensive." You don't have to be a native from Boston or San Francisco to have it happen. What it costs to live in Tucson. Here are a few facts: Rent on average in Tucson is about half that of San Francisco, Boston or Chicago. In San Diego or Denver, a bedroom in a four-bedroom house costs less than half as much. The average cost of a two-bedroom apartment in Tucson would be roughly equal to what the average cost of a studio in Los Angeles is. Tucson's housing prices are only slightly higher than what they were 20 years ago.
And there's a way to measure whether it's worth all the money you're spending: For the same size, comfort and access to the latest technology, Tucson has less stuff and lower prices. So, is it really worth the high cost? For most people who live in Tucson, and there are a few other places where you can live for relatively cheap, moving to Tucson means leaving behind more expensive housing options in places like San Francisco, Santa Monica and West Hollywood. It costs less to rent a three-bedroom home in Maricopa County than it does to rent a two-bedroom apartment in Chicago, or to own a home in Denver.
For the average resident moving here, a car also costs much less than in any of these cities. The cost to rent a place is another important consideration. It's not easy to get a hold of a studio apartment in Santa Monica or West Hollywood, much less a big suburban home. And finding good roommates is tough in these expensive cities.
It's harder to live on a small city wage.
What are the negatives of a Hyundai Tucson?
The negatives of a Hyundai Tucson, or any other compact car, can be quite subtle, or not. But these cars are usually packed with features, and have good performance. The Tucson is actually quite a good car if you use it correctly.
Hyundai Tucson Negatives. Trip to the beach is a breeze in the Tucson. It will start right up, and coast down the hill as long as the coast is good, and you don't need to press the brake pedal all the way down to hit the clutch, which would be dangerous.
It also has an engine that pulls more like a family car, and won't start with a clunk. It doesn't pull you along at crazy speeds on winding roads. It is a good all-arounder.
There is little noise inside the cabin, even when accelerating hard. But it is far from the perfect car, and a couple of factors may make you wonder about how good the car is overall. I've never owned a Hyundai, so I cannot really speak to the negatives about that company. Hyundai Tucson Problems. The power steering rack is not the most responsive of systems, but it's not the worst either. It is something to keep an eye on when cornering.
The headlights are not the brightest, and the halos can be easily washed out. Sometimes the headlight switch does not work, and sometimes it just shuts off. This is not always easy to diagnose, but there is no mystery to it at all.
The windshield wipers are loud, but they move the water quickly across the glass. The engine might buzz loudly if you get it revving too high. But it shouldn't be revving itself too hard to do that, and that means that you should not have to take the car to the dealer for the noise to be corrected.
The transmission in the Tucson feels a bit like a family car, and is not super smooth when taking it in to gear changes. There are very few shifts in the Tucson, and it feels a bit like you're going into a gas station and buying a loaf of bread.
You can't change the stereo with your smartphone, like you can in other cars. And even if you could, it sounds terrible.
Is Hyundai Tucson considered a luxury car?
The 2025 Hyundai Tucson is offered with 4 trim levels, each having features and benefits that you are sure to find attractive. While each trim level shares common features such as the front grille and the projector beam headlights, the level you choose affects interior space, exterior style and comfort.
There is only one engine available for the 2025 Hyundai Tucson: a turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline engine delivering 130 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 134 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 rpm. This engine provides excellent fuel economy, and its turbocharger uses waste heat to boost power and efficiency. The transmission also features an integrated start-stop system that cuts fuel consumption by stopping the engine when you stop driving and turning off the engine when the car is parked to save battery life and gas.
Although the base 2025 Hyundai Tucson is an AWD model, the Hybrid and 4WD models come equipped with all-wheel-drive capability. With four driving modes and two selectable driving programs, the Hybrid and 4WD models offer plenty of utility and versatility to make your road trip or long commute interesting, comfortable and eco-friendly.
Hyundai has been making the Tucson since 1994. They say it's a 'full-size' crossover/SUV and I've never quite bought that whole idea but I know this van has its benefits and there are more buyers looking for a vehicle like the Tucson. With that said the question is, Is the Tucson truly "sporting"? My thought is, I don't want sporty, I want a good looking, comfortable and well made vehicle.
The way I see it in terms of practicality:The car will take up the same amount of space as a minivan if not more. It can get much better mileage (50 mpg), be cheaper to operate as less gas is used, it's more secure (no trunk-opening), has larger cargo capacity (much bigger than my previous minivan), has a larger boot (more space), is better looking, has bigger windows (the van looks like a mini truck) and it's more "sporty" which means more comfortable, easier to park (in a crowded parking lot as long as it fits into the car park) and cheaper to insure because it has better handling.
