What is the range of the Ram range extender?
The range of the Ram range extender is 20-30m. It is a great value for money as it does all the hard work of extending the range for you.
Does it require installation? The range extender requires no installation, it's simply plug and play. Does it use the car battery? The range extender uses the car battery to power the range extender, it also saves the battery life by not using the car's electric power to run it. Can the range extender be used in any car? Is the RAM Rev available?
I'm looking at the new RAM Rev as my first upgrade to my Mac mini.e. I love it so far. I would be curious how it compares to my existing RAM. Do you have to use the RAM Rev instead of your existing RAM?
The RAM Rev is available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities. The RAM Rev will be available to purchase from Apple starting May 10th.
I ordered mine from MacMall this morning. The cost difference between the RAM Rev and standard RAM has been a talking point of the Mac forums for weeks. I'll take a look at the post you linked to.
So you think there will be a "discontinuation" of the 16GB DDR3 standard RAM because the cost difference is so great? I don't think the RAM Rev is significantly different in terms of cost from the standard 16GB RAM. But when Apple discontinues the standard 16GB RAM, it will likely be replaced by the RAM Rev, just like the current Apple-spec 16GB RAM is replaced by the Apple-spec 16GB RAM Rev. I hope that you are correct, and that Apple does not discontinue the 16GB RAM.99 after tax.99 at Newegg for a pair of 16GB DDR3 1333 RAM.
Yeah, I'm thinking about the long term future of the Mac mini.
How far can a Ram Rev go?
I read that the Ram Rev is actually a Ram with a longer stroke. Is this a correct statement? Or was it just the case of putting a longer stroke on an already long ram to get the right revs? A ram is made to produce high torque, not revs. If you have enough torque to spin the crank then your shaft and your gears are good. More torque than revs is not needed. You want revs. Revs are produced by the engine turning the crankshaft and they have nothing to do with the ram (ram is short for rotary). But yes you should be able to spin the crank with the ram even if it's only 1-2 inches.
Aramis are basically just modified engines and their crankshafts are in exactly the same place as a typical motorcycle engine's crankshaft so the gearing should be the same and most likely the final drive will be as well. So the only thing differentiating an engine with a ram from one without will be that it will use a higher gear ratio than a regular engine with a crankshaft in the middle and camshaft on the outside.
All that being said, most people would never notice the difference between a ram and a normal engine. The engine could be a stock one, and you would never know what the ram was in the back. This is why we need to try to keep the ram a secret to ourselves.
Hate here. Love out there. Get off my cloud.
To answer your question: "Ramrev" has nothing to do with a longer stroke, it's a name given to some aftermarket rams. They are basically made to have high torque at low rpm, to use in very light vehicles. The original "Ram" design is made for heavy duty use in trucks and big rigs.
Ramrev is a short stroke rams where the cylinders are placed directly on top of each other. This gives the engine less total height, and thus makes room for the fuel tank on the passenger side. The other side of the engine has the radiator, fan and oil filter (as well as other accessories).
