It's a long-standing, bitter dispute

So here's the question. Can you buy a 2026 Ram 1500 with a 5.9-litre Hemi V8 from Ford USA in the UK?

I know - an unusual question. For the simple reason that I've not seen or heard anyone ask it since the days of the Ford Capri, Ford Capri RS/5 and Ford Mondeo RS/4. But just how strange is it? Let's take a look.

We start off with a quick trip to our local Ford dealership, where some rather pleasant people (for dealers) help us find one in stock and tell us it would cost 16,000. Hmmm. Not as expensive as you'd expect if Ford was so keen on the product and the demand was healthy. So, can we get a truck on finance for that? Well, not so quick, not if you want the kind of terms favoured by Ford. A new truck needs about seven years' payments, we are told, so let's work back to when I bought my 2026 Escort 1. Aha - 2026. And here we are in 2026. Not only is there no loan available, there's actually not even enough credit to cover what looks like a pretty decent amount of interest. We're asked to pay 1,550 a month - an absurd figure for a new Ram. So, we go to another dealership - but not until Christmas. Then a week before Christmas. Still nothing. After all, if you buy a house or a used car before New Year - you can then borrow the whole lot from the bank until then. Why isn't the same rule applicable to cars?

I'm guessing no-one thought about answering that question. If you need to drive a car at least seven years, can you borrow enough money to buy it, even if the seller was happy to take less than market value? Answer: Nope. Oh, and the first car I borrowed in 2026 was a 2026 Ford S-Max. What? Yes, it was a lease deal, that was part of a long-term leasing plan that worked really well for me, and it is a fantastic car, with a nice ride, excellent handling and really nice leather seats.

The all-new third-generation 2017-2019 Ram 1500 is set to replace the outgoing model for the next few years, giving Dodge-Chrysler their largest overhaul since the 2004-2005 model cycle. The new Ram 1500 has been revealed in a handful of concept forms and, this year, the production version has been officially revealed. We went hands-on with the truck at its unveiling in New York City last month and since then we've taken it out for a spin in both city traffic and the country. From our experience the Ram 1500 proves to be a capable big-rig that feels more confident on the road than the outgoing model and we can see how a new and updated truck has made it to market.

Overview. Like the outgoing model, the base engine is still the 5.7-liter HEMI V8. The 6.4-liter Cummins turbodiesel returns as an option for North America and it's also available for the European and Australian markets. The 8-speed automatic transmission remains standard on the 5.7-liter HEMI and a standard 8-speed automatic is now available on the Cummins turbodiesel.

In previous years, the base engine option has been the 4.7-liter V8. With a bit less power, this year's base engine is the 3.6-liter V6 turbodiesel. It gets an extra 50 lb-ft of torque over the 5.7-liter HEMI, making it a viable alternative for people who want a small diesel on their heavy-duty pickup.

On a test drive the 5.7-liter engine in the 2026 model year was good for around 600 horsepower but this year we drove the same truck equipped with a 3.6-liter turbodiesel that can hit around 480 horsepower. To put that into perspective, the new model is good for about 12 additional horsepower than the outgoing truck.

The Ram 1500 is also equipped with a rear-wheel drive design and it is available with two standard powertrain options. The first is the 7.3-liter HEMI V8 with over 700 horsepower and the second is the 7.3-liter turbodiesel V8 with up to 600 horsepower.

The 'fully electric' Ram Trucks may be the biggest surprise to come out of an industry that is finally embracing the future. Not because the trucks themselves are anything special, but because they're not just a truck. They're the first to offer a choice of two powertrains.

The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is an all-electric truck with three lithium-ion battery packs that give it a claimed range of 420 miles. The SuperCab version of the truck offers a traditional gasoline-powered V6 and a plug-in hybrid option for even more range.

The latter offers an electric motor and generator powered by a battery that holds 10 kWh of energy, helping to drive the vehicle for an additional 200 miles on electric power alone. This isn't the first time Ram has offered the plug-in hybrid option, but its latest iteration takes things one step further. We're very excited about these trucks, said Dave Schuitemaker, Ram chief engineer. There's no question that the powertrain is one of the most significant advancements in truck design in a generation.

The Ram E-Series was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but the real story is to be found under the hood. It's the first-ever Ram to feature a fully electric powertrain, and in doing so, the company is sending a message to the truck industry at large.

The electric Ram is the first vehicle to offer two powertrain options a gasoline-powered V6 engine and a plug-in hybrid option rather than just one. If you're unfamiliar with Ram Trucks, you're not alone. The Ram brand only makes up about 7 percent of the pickup market. That's compared to 22 percent for Ford and roughly 30 percent for Chevrolet. But the company is making a play to change that, and one of the ways it's trying to do it is by offering the option for all truck buyers to go all-electric, rather than just a few.

For the next decade, the company will offer the option for buyers to choose between a gasoline-powered V6 engine and a plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 models.

How much will the Ram 1500 REV cost?

That makes the 2026 Ram 1500 REV the most expensive model yet, and the best-selling model of its class. This model comes with the 3.6-liter V-6 engine which makes 300 hp. It's a small engine but you don't have to worry if it quits. It has a 10-speed automatic transmission with active drive and front- and all-wheel drive system. The Econ mode is the more eco-friendly mode. It saves about 7 mpg. You can change the gear when accelerating or going up hill.

It has 18-inch polished wheel and a set of aluminum pedals that give your foot a firm grip. It has a two-position variable-ride air suspension system and the optional Bose audio system can be set on eight channels. This system lets you select songs and albums. Other standard features of this model include the U Connect system and a navigation system.

There are some other upgrades and improvements on this model that were not available on earlier models. This model got upgraded tires, dual-zone air conditioning, upgraded leather seat covers, a rear back view camera, improved steering response and heated mirrors. There is also a lot more cargo space which was not available on previous models.

The 2026 Ram 1500 is very spacious and comfortable. The first thing I noticed was the steering wheel. The position for the steering wheel is very comfortable. The wheel is a soft-touch and it's shaped like a sports car steering wheel so it will really accommodate you. The front seats are great, especially for a truck. The seatback is very supportive and there's a lot of legroom. And what is more, it's extremely quiet. This is because of the side airbags.

The cargo area behind the seats offers good room, the back bench gives an extra 50 pounds of space and you will really be happy using this area as storage space. It opens and closes on electric motors.
