A guy I worked for at one time told me he had worked for a trucking company that had been taken over by a company that ran two different trucks. One was a 2024 or 2024 model Dodge Ram 1500 with a single cab, and the other was a 1994 or 1995 model Ford F-350, also with a single cab. The trucks were almost identical. They were both red, and both weighed approximately the same. The biggest difference was the cab, and this was the one that was a "bigger truck".

I thought to myself "How is it that these two trucks have the exact same specs and the exact same price, but the one with the bigger cab is the bigger truck?" He told me that the truck had made it to a truck stop in North Dakota, and that the truck stop had sold it to another trucking company. He said they were going to have to buy a new truck because the one he was driving was not the same truck anymore.

The next day, I got a call from him and told me that he was going to be driving the bigger truck, the 1994 Ford F-350. He told me that this truck had a lot of miles on it, and that he had already driven it for the last few days, and it was awesome. He told me that it was a lot faster than the Dodge truck. I remember being very impressed with him. He told me that he was only going to be driving it for a few more days, and then he was going to be selling it to another trucking company.

Number 2 is really cool, I just can't seem to wrap my head around it. It's not the worst truck in the world, but it would be a bit of a challenge in mud. Does anyone else have a favorite?

"Truck" is a very broad term. If you mean "truck" as in an actual truck (ie dump truck, cement mixer, etc.), then my pick is definitely #5. There is absolutely no way a 4x4 Ford Ranger or Chevy Silverado or any of the others can keep up with the Duramax on the trail (and yes, even if it's only in a mudhole). And for those who will try to play it down, the Duramax is actually much faster on hard surface than on pavement. I know this because I've tried both on trails and they're pretty much the same pace. Once you factor in the fuel mileage that a trail truck has vs. If you like the idea of getting some extra time on your lunch break, you can always put in a couple hundred dollars more and get an aftermarket exhaust. For me, the real reason I'm picking the Duramax over the 4x4 is the extra power, which means less stops, less gas for me, and hopefully less downtime getting stuck in something, which is my biggest pet peeve about 4x4s. I know it's just one of those things that sounds logical on paper but is hard to explain why it's better unless you've spent the hours behind the wheel in every kind of driving conditions, and in my case, this has proven to be true.

When I originally had my Duramax, I wanted the Cummins and I put in my own exhaust, but once I got tired of pushing air through the muffler, I put it back on the stock muffler and was quite happy. I've put mine on long enough to know that I'm faster and it's a lot more fun. I'm sure that any other diesel truck can do the same. I think most are just as fast as a 4x4 Ford.
