Vauxhall cuts the price of it's Ampera
With the price cut, the starting price of the Ampera is now at £28,750, but this also includes the grant of £5,000 that is given by the government to those who purchase low emission electric vehicles. The 'Plug-In Car' grant is available for cars that have a range of over 60 miles and emit less than 75g of CO2 per km.
The Ampera is battery powered, but also uses a petrol engine. This petrol engine is used to charge the battery, and packs a chunky 1.4 litre capacity. The Ampera has a range of 50 miles when using the battery alone, but by using the engine in tandem, this range increases to over 300 miles.
The entry level Ampera is called the Positiv, costing from £28,750 and comes with rear view camera and climate control. The next level up comes the Electron, costing from £30,495, and including a music system powered by Bose.
Vauxhall is saying that their aim in lowering the price of the Ampera is to make owning an electric car more affordable for the average motorist. The managing director of Vauxhall, Duncan Aldred, has called the Ampera the "only solution" for an electric family car.
The Ampera is obtainable from over 20 different Vauxhall dealers throughout the UK.
