Recall of over 2.6 million Volkswagen vehicles
Amongst the potential problems that have come to light include issues with leaks in the fuel line seen in some Volkswagen models, problems with seven-speed gearboxes, and possible issues with headlights. However, the main issue effecting Volkswagen vehicles is the oil that has been used in 1.6 million of the automotive manufacturer's gearboxes.
The problem has mainly been seen when driving during hot, humid conditions. The German car giant has also stated that issues may be seen when stop-start driving is in effect, such as when travelling around cities, and can result in difficulties with vehicle electronics. No problems have yet to manifest themselves in the UK market, but nevertheless Volkswagen has issued a voluntary recall. They are offering to replace the oil in any effected gearbox with a mineral oil, which will remedy the issue.
For UK motorists with Volkswagen's Amarok model of pick-up, a recall of around 4,000 vehicles is being issued, totaling 239,000 worldwide. This recall is to remedy an issue with possible leaks in the fuel lines. Primarily effecting vehicles with a 2.0 TDI engine, the recall may include other variations of the vehicle.
Furthermore, up to 30,000 of Volkswagen's SUV, the Tiguan, are being recalled in the UK, with up to 800,000 being recalled worldwide. These vehicles, manufactured between 2008 and 2011, may have an issue with light fuses that could cause them not to function. According to the Volkswagen UK website, 'There is no charge for recall work.'
