New Golf Estate offers more space than it's rivals
The new version of the Golf offers the same levels of trim as it's hatchback equivalent, for around £800 more than you would pay for the usual model. However, where the Golf Estate shines is it's boot capacity. It boasts a huge 605 litres of space, around 60% more than it's hatchback equivalent. This can be augmented to a whopping 1620 litres when the back seats are folded down. Indeed, the new model has so much space available, it is actually more spacious than it's rivals, such as the VW Astra Sports Tourer and the Ford Focus estate.
A wide selection of engines are available to choose from, with four petrol and three diesel offerings on the table. These engines range in power from a 84bhp 1.2-litre TSI to a 148bhp 2.0-litre TDI, with gearboxes available from five-speed manuals, to seven-speed DSG gearboxes.
Each model also comes equipped with roof rails, and a total payload of nearly 600kg - akin to what a smaller van would offer. Also included with all models is a multi-level boot floor, guaranteeing that the load area is flat when seats are folded down, and a rolling load cover to secure luggage.
A stop/start system is included as standard in all models, as are DAB radios, Bluetooth capabilities, and colour touchscreens. More expensive models offer a variety of extras.
The Volkswagen Golf Estate is available now, starting at £17,915, and with a Bluemotion edition available later on in the year.
