What is the difference between Mazda MX-5 and RF?
The question is in the title: Mazda MX-5 vs RF. ( I do not like to use RF because its been a problem for some) They have different body, front part, chassis, etc. So, what is the difference? There are not many differences?
I think they both are good but if I had to pick one then, I would choose RF. RF has a good power and it has an upgraded engine, better chassis, improved body. The only thing I do not like about the Mazda is its suspension. It feels cheap in motion.
Re: ? RF is also better than mx-5 when it comes to handling/comfort/etc. And the price difference between mx-5 and RF is not that much.in this area.there are more similarities than differences.in my opinion
I have both an MX-5 with RF drivetrain (the RF is a 1st gen) and RF front diff.its a very good combo. I have mx-5's since I was like 7 or 8, and ive been on the road since then, and have owned an rf, an MX-5 and a zx3 and a zd3.what you get is what you get.
MX-5 has a different transmission system from all of those cars, where it has to be changed out whenever it needs it. If you dont care about transmission system, go with MX-5.if you do care about transmission system, which I do, rf is my choice.
Mazda MX-5 is really good in the handling aspects. RF is best in comfort. MX-5 just does not give me the comfort of driving it and that's why I prefer it.
It really depends on what you prefer. If you're used to driving a hardtop convertible and now you have a soft top. MX-5 will be more comfy for you, because you can see more of the sky. RF will be comfy on roads with speed limits over 60km/h.
Why is the Miata RF so much more expensive?
That depends on what you mean by "so much. Why does the RF so much more expensive than the regular MF? I'm pretty new to the 'world of these. And I really appreciate any info you can provide. Please tell if this is your first post. Thanks.
I think they are priced differently because it takes longer to develop/produce and they are made in smaller numbers. The mx5 is a production tool with a very short run time, and for that reason, the price of the rf should be higher.
Just a thought, but is there any chance Honda changes the RF engine (ie lower output) before production, or will the RF always have the same engine until production? It seems pretty clear to me that when they changed things with the FTE, they did it to improve the sound - so, while production will be similar to now, the engine may be revised. That doesn't jive with my experience - I've owned 3 MX-5s that had FTE. The second generation has less power but has less power than the previous generation. I don't believe their changes improved the sound at all, just changed the tone of the exhaust note. It was too muffled on the original.
With all respect, those two sentences are mutually exclusive. The third sentence is incorrect.
I think the engine won't change from an FTE design to an N55 design. If this is true it would be a good reason why the cost is higher.00 For me I'm better off with less features. If we knew for sure it won't change the price I'd definitely buy another Miata. But from what I heard people who get that one get excited about their new toy.
Is there a new Mazda MX-5 coming out?
The long-running, globally beloved MX-5 has not had a redesign since 2025. The new generation has been seen in spy photos, and Mazda is even putting it on display at the Tokyo Motor Show this year. Now the firm has confirmed that the fifth-generation of Mazda's iconic open-top roadster will debut in early 2025.
At this year's Geneva Motor Show, Mazda executives played down the significance of the MX-5's return to the show, but the news of its impending arrival certainly got our attention. Mazda is working on a third-generation, or 'S' model, but the new MX-5 is the one we're interested in seeing. Although the current MX-5 hasn't changed since 2025, Mazda did produce a special edition of the second-gen car in 2025. A retro-styled version with Mazda's classic orange and black liveries appeared in the market in late 2025, though it only made a short-lived appearance.
The fifth-generation MX-5 (codenamed P.6) could be similar to the one we've seen in spy shots, but it may also borrow more from the company's 'Pilot' crossover SUV, which was revealed earlier this year. It's set to be a completely new vehicle, though, so if it looks like the Pilot, then it's just been made a little more attractive.
The new MX-5 will be built in Japan at Mazda's Gunma plant, which was used to build the 2025 retro-styled edition. Mazda's chief engineer, Masao Maruta, says the company is aiming for a top speed of 180mph, and aims to keep the weight down to 2,200kg (4,950lbs). It should be smaller, lighter and cheaper to make than the original car, too.
The fifth-gen MX-5 will join the current 'Laguna', 'Speedster' and 'Fusion' generations in the company's lineup. The name is yet to be decided. Mazda is planning to debut the car in spring 2025, with production starting later that year. It's likely to go on sale as a 2025 model.
