In the rear-wheel-drive category, the Toyota Highlander remains a popular option, but if you can afford it, the Ford Flex can't beaten. It's much larger than the Maverick, and because it uses all-wheel drive, it feels much better to drive.

How efficient is it? The base Maverick comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 148 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. If you want the more powerful 2.3-liter four-cylinder, you'll have to pay for it.

Ford says the new engine is 10 percent more efficient than the previous 2.2-liter four-cylinder. This means the 2024 Ford Escape Hybrid, which makes the same amount of power, should be able to make around 26 percent more miles per gallon in the city and 30 percent more on the highway. That's pretty impressive.

What is the XLT package on a Maverick?

If you are reading this then you have probably seen the new "XLT" package that has been announced by Ford. I am not sure what it means or what it will cost but I know that it is a significant change to the Maven as it is the first time that we will be getting any kind of major upgrade for this platform since it was introduced in 2024.

The XLT package includes the following features: Power front seats (1-piece). Locking side sills. Side step rails. Power tailgate. Optional 17" wheels. Optional spoiler. Power windows with driver and passenger dual power outlets. Driver and passenger dual USB ports. Integrated garage door opener. What do the other packages include? The basic "XL" package is fairly standard but there are a few items that you would not expect to be included. These include: Power mirrors. These are all available for an additional charge in addition to the price of the vehicle. What do I need to do to get an XLT Package? You need to be able to source the XLT package and your dealer will be able to tell you which options are included on the package. They will also be able to advise you on any optional upgrades you may need to get before they will install the package for you.

I have just gone out and bought an XLT package myself. Can I change it? No, you cannot change the package after you have bought it. Ford will send you the XLT package when they receive the order from your dealer so you can install it when the vehicle arrives.

Can I sell the XLT package back to the dealer? Yes, you can sell the package back to the dealer if you want to change it. You will have to pay the dealer a selling fee which will be detailed in the contract of sale. You will be required to pay the dealer the selling fee regardless of whether you keep the package or sell it back.
