How much horsepower does the hurricane have in the 2025 Ram?
I was just wondering what people thought about my decision to go with the hurricane? Is it a decent engine for the price? Or is it just an engine you wouldn't use unless you were on the racetrack? What do I want to know about it. I'm also worried about power steering, it's been pretty hard to find after market PSS in my truck. I've been searching for months now and nothing shows up. Not really impressed at all. Does anyone else have experience with this engine in their Ram? I'm leaning toward getting it, but I can't wait to see if they make it happen or not!
The Hurricane in our Ram 1500 is rated at 305 HP and 360 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 RPM and 300 LB-FT at 5,800 RPM. The Hurricane is a diesel with direct injection and variable valve timing, so its a fairly small displacement engine in an older generation frame.
I've read that, but I'm not looking for those facts.lol. I mean what I've seen online from a little research tells me the fuel efficiency is decent, over 20 city and highway combined and 8.8 on the interstate. The only problem is the emissions that are not legal in the state of Washington. I live near the border where the emission laws are very different. It's fine where I live, but the laws are very strict up north. Anyways I'm just trying to get my head around what they tell me. I didn't want to get the impression that I was a cheapskate or anything. I know it has a good price and good power compared to others.
You might not have been asking for opinions. I was hoping to get some actual reviews and opinions on the engine, performance, service, warranty, etc.
I own a 2024 5.7L V8 equipped Ram 1500.
What kind of engine is hurricane?
I thought this was a good forum to get the right information about which engine is the best for the hurricane. I live in a high rise condo and I think that its a lot quieter than my neighbor who lives in an apt next to me. So if u know the noise level of the hurricane please tell. I have a 2024 chevy blazer with a 4 cylinder engine. I plan on replacing it with a v6 with 2 turbos and a supercharger. I really like the way it sounds but my neighbors say its a noisier car and I am kinda worried about that. Please help me out! Thanks!
This is a great question. First, you need to decide what you will do with the engine. Do you want a V-8? It is the most powerful engine but it is also the most expensive. A V-6 will get you better mileage, which is nice if you drive a lot. If you don't drive that much then you can probably go with the V-6. If you are looking for a performance engine, then you need to find out how big it is in cubic inches. Your V-6 will be a small engine, so it will not have a lot of power. This is important, because the bigger your engine the louder it will be. When you put a V-8 into a blazer or a truck, it gets a lot of torque from the small engine. That is the extra power. But you still won't have any real horsepower.
You need to get some good information on your engine. Go to a mechanic and have him look at it. Take the hood off and let him look inside it. Ask if you can get in it and sit down inside it while it is running. Ask if you can listen to it with the windows down. Be very careful to not hit anything. And don't forget to check your oil!
The best way to find out what you want is to find something similar, and put in your engine and run it.
Will the Ram 1500 get the Hurricane engine?
Ram 1500 - 2024 version? I have been told by a Ford dealer that the new Ram 1500 is to be badged as the Ford EcoBoost. The new engine is known as the Hurricane. Is this engine coming to the Ram 1500? The same time, I have been told the new engine for the Ram is to be the Cummins ISX. Any information or news on this? Thanks
What does Hurricane mean? Does it refer to the engine or is it the power train that we see on the next gen Ram 1500? It would be great if this question could get answered before the start of next year. Thanks for your comment. I believe Hurricane is an engine designation. I have a feeling it will be used for the Ram's engine. I have not seen any other posts about this. But the rumors are coming out of the Ford camp. This might be a good one to follow. Ford EcoBoost vs. Cummins ISX
Ford's EcoBoost engine is not being sold in Ram trucks. I'm not exactly sure where you got your info, but the EcoBoost is only available in the F-150. When it comes to the 1500, there is no EcoBoost engine.
I am a little confused with the latest info on the EcoBoost engine. Ford has said the EcoBoost will be in the new F-150, which is a great truck. I think they should have released the specs by now. Is there any chance that the Ram 1500 EcoBoost will be the same as the F-150?
Thanks for your comments. Actually, they've already stated that it will be the EcoBoost in the F-150, so it's pretty much a done deal. As far as the Ram goes, however, they are holding back on the specs until closer to launch. If the F-150 ends up with the 6.2L EcoBoost, then the Ram 1500 will get the 4.6L EcoBoost.
What is the difference between the Hemi and the Hurricane engine?
The Hemi engine has 8 cylinders (2 per cylinder bank) each side. The Hurricane engine has six cylinders per side with each cylinder being one half the length of the Hemi engine. This was primarily done because the Hemi engine is a big, heavy engine, and if it were all in the same plane, it would over heat very easily and be quite noisy. You have the option to order dual carb or 4 barrel carburetor on the Hurricane engine.
You don't have to spend any more for a Hurricane engine then you do for a Hemi engine because it is only a 6.1 liter engine rather then the 6.3 L engine.
I'm not sure that's correct. The Hemi engine was introduced in 1968 while the Hurricane came in 1966. I did some research, but didn't find anything definitive. I'd appreciate it if anyone could clarify.
I've got a friend with a 427 in a 1970 Camaro RS/SS with the Hemi, and he says it is more fun to drive. The Hemi uses a slightly smaller block, not sure if it is really small but it is there. The bigger engine was never more than a 5.4L and is a solid performer for street driving. I think you have an accurate statement about the 6.1, but for those that haven't driven a Hurricane we may be talking about different levels of the engine with a 6.1 being a nice performer, and a 8cyl engine being something else entirely. Of course if it is all over the power band it doesn't matter as much.
I don't remember where I saw this but one difference I remembered was that when you're looking at the back of a Hemi engine the intake manifold sits above the exhaust manifolds on the engine, while with the Hurricane it sits below. On an early model Hurricane it's a tight fit, so in later years they went a step further and moved the intake manifold in the front of the engine (to a location near the middle of the engine). I'd love to see one. And a picture of the intake!
Yes, the engine debuted in '68 with the ZL-1 package.
