Dodge was founded by two brothers in 1900. Originally they set up to supply parts to the booming car industry in the Detroit area. The decision was made to produce their own complete cars, of which the first one left the production line in 1914.
The company remained in the brothers ownership for a few years until Chrysler bought the brand in 1928 where it has remained as one of it's most popular brands up to the present day.
Chrysler sells many varieties of vehicles under the Dodge brand ranging from small family cars up to medium to heavy duty trucks, aswell as the performance cars which many people associate with the name Dodge. Being a major player in the American Muscle car era they have kept with this tradition in some respects with it's sports car range.
Dodge has lasted the tests of time by being versatile it would seem. This doesn't look like it is going to change anytime soon, Dodge is one of the few brands that have managed to diversify there range across the board while still remaining in business.
