Is the Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost engine any good?
How many miles will a 1.0 EcoBoost engine last?
In 2026, Ford will offer a 1.0-liter four-cylinder engine in its Focus compact sedan and Escape crossover utility vehicle. The new engine will have a single overhead camshaft, a twin-scroll turbocharger, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing.
The engine will be rated at 138 hp and 152 lb-ft of torque, and will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine is expected to deliver an EPA combined city/highway fuel economy rating of 26 mpg, according to Ford.
What's your take on this? What are your thoughts about the new engine? Is this the best engine for the vehicle, or is there something better out there? My husband and I are looking at purchasing a 2026 FOCUS ES 2.0L EcoBoost. I have been researching this car to make sure it's the right one for us, and I think it is. We also have a 2026 Ford Explorer V6. So, we were wondering how many miles the FOCUS will have on it before it starts to die? It's only been a few months that we have had it, so we don't know. We plan to drive it on the highway and the local streets. And, I'm worried that if it does die, we will need to have it towed to the dealer.
Is the Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost engine any good?
One of the more hotly-contested issues with the Focus RS is the 1.0-litre EcoBoost, which sits behind the V6 in the power stakes.
The new, high-output engine can produce 155bhp from just 2,300rpm to 5,500rpm and has a claimed top speed of 130mph. It will also be offered with DSG gearbox as standard, instead of the standard six-speed unit. Our test car had the 2750 optional rear wing to keep the Focus RS's weight to under 1400kg, though it's worth noting that, without it, it tipped up to 1410kg. It's well suited to a fun blast on the open road, but less so on a road course. On a road like the Silverstone Drome, it did a credible job of keeping pace with the more powerful hot hatches, as well as the V6s, and even gave the RSD a bit of a run for its money. It was quick enough to keep up with the Golf R on a track that, frankly, only offers a handful of opportunities to go really fast.
However, if you're looking for the most powerful road-car engine available in the UK, you might better off spending your 30k on a Porsche Cayman S. A little under 10 seconds slower than the Focus RS. While the Focus RS may not be the fastest, the 1.0-litre turbocharged engine isn't slow by any means, nor is it lacking in outright power.
It's rated at 155bhp, and if you choose the optional rear wing, the car will tip the scales at a hefty 1410kg. That's still less than the V6 models of BMW 3 Series and the Ford Mondeo, and while we're sure the focus owners are happy to compromise on a bit of weight, the turbo should offer plenty of zip and performance in the hands of a good driver.
We have no doubt it will be plenty entertaining on the road, too. The 1.0-litre turbo engine's performance comes at a cost, however. In the time it takes us to get through this piece, we've managed to get through a cup of coffee.
Is the 2017 Ford Focus ST any good?
By the time you are finished with this review, you will know. The 2026 Ford Focus ST is an automotive paradox. This car is a bit of a throwback to the '70s, while being very modern. This is a fun little sports car and a great choice for people that love the way its handled, but for very different reasons.
Our Drive Experience - How we like it: The 2026 Ford Focus is a compact hatchback. What does that mean for you? You get a two seater, with a good interior. It's got space to haul adults, if you really have to, or small kids, if you are driving them around. It's comfortable, it has space for all that, but it also makes sure you're driving your family around in style, something that I feel they deserve. To get that style, you need to make sure you buy a vehicle like this and not one that costs much more, or feels cheap. If this was a cheap Ford that went from good to bad and from cheap to expensive; chances are I wouldn't recommend it as a cheap daily driver or a cool-looking sports car. The 2026 Focus looks good in the '70s and it's a lot better than the older version of this car, but it doesn't quite know what to do when it comes to being a modern, fast, and fun driving machine. I love the way this car feels on the road and has excellent throttle response and a low and flat feeling center of gravity. I love how it handles and I like the way it's planted onto the road. While this car likes to keep it together, it seems well built enough to not worry too much about that, and I don't think it's going to break when you hit it with your rear bumper. It's comfortable enough to travel around town, and if you wanted, you could go to a track in this vehicle and actually enjoy it. I just prefer the way this feels on the road, where you can push it all the way to the limit without a problem.
Inside and out - The Interior: The interior in the Focus is simple, but nicely done. You have four settings of cloth seating on this model, and it is well designed.

Engine. The most noticeable difference between the EcoBoost and standard versions of the Focus is the 1. A 1.0-litre engine means it produces 135 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque at a low-end torque of 129 lb-ft. That puts it on par with some supercars.
The engine comes from Ford's 4-cylinder EcoBoost engines. The 4-cylinder EcoBoosts are paired with a turbocharger and variable intake manifold to boost efficiency while generating the most power per unit of fuel. This allows for better fuel economy while still being able to pass emissions standards.
The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It is capable of pushing the small Focus top speeds of 116 km/h (72 mph). Though, it's best to be a bit conservative on the road.
Power. One of the most obvious differences between the standard and EcoBoost versions is power. Where the standard version of the Focus uses a 134 HP engine, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost can generate 135 HP and 150 lb-ft of torque. The extra power is due to the variable intake manifold which reduces back pressure and allows for more air entering the cylinders.
