We're now only a few days out from the start of a new model year. That means it's time to take a quick look at how the market has fared in a few critical areas so far and what that will mean for the model range over the coming months. But before we even get into that, Ford has released a teaser image for its new Focus that should whet everyone's appetite for its return to British shores. We reckon they might have gotten their timing right on this one, as it's been rumoured that the model will return after an almost decade absence in the next 12-18 months.
We can also confirm that the company has gone all out by releasing at least three new images to entice prospective buyers. As you'd expect, it'll come in four different "trims". The most basic one will remain the manual-equipped three-cylinder 1.0T which would remain available in hatchback guise as well. In addition, there'll be two other special editions with a more sporting flavour - the 1.5T GT and the RS which features a bit of a make-over, including a redesigned front bumper.
So, let's take a deeper look at the 1.0T hatch; which is currently the cheapest trim on sale in Europe.
A 1.0L naturally aspirated 3-cylinder engine powers the base model through a 6-speed gearbox. The focus feels fairly well balanced here and certainly makes enough torque to pull its hefty 0.24kW/lb weight forward without fuss.
There are plenty of driving modes to keep everything well in check, however - Sport, Eco-Pro and Normal are the norm in the UK. There's also the optional Dynamic Torque Control which helps to deliver power throughout the rev range - something that most drivers will find useful in city traffic.
It also has several other 'attributes' such as Cruise Control, Bluetooth Phone and Music streaming and Ford's Touchscreen infotainment system. And it can even detect your key fob when you have your pocket clipped on to it. We like it, but the seats just feel a bit on the thin side, although they provide more support than many other 1.0 hatchbacks on sale. We don't think it'll appeal to drivers looking for the sporty side, however.

A combination of power, performance and fuel economy we've not seen from an engine this size before, with more than enough power to make that all worthwhile. With a staggering 190bhp at 5500rpm, it's a serious engine, so is it worth the extra money over the standard engine? We asked one person who has driven both to find out. Davey has just finished up the first day of the Geneva Motor Show where it seemed half the world was turning the streets into a motorway system. He's been doing some driving around too, trying to avoid the traffic and getting his hands dirty to test drive this Ford with its new twin turbo four-cylinder engine. The RS model has a claimed top speed of 174mph but no matter how hard he drives, that doesn't seem fast enough! The RS model was also the star of another event at the show, where the car was stolen on the last day, so not too many drivers have had a go.

I'm pleased to say there's not much change since then but this version is definitely a much better car. It's almost got two seats on top, there are two big wing mirrors and you can see most of the roof when you look behind you, a lot of people will see their new car as a bit of a Ferrari F430!

SE models don't include some of the luxury features you get on the ST-Line, so it's not as good for family driving, but that means it's cheaper. As well as looking great and having a spacious cabin, the SE is also practical. It has a decent boot, a big infotainment screen, air conditioning and power steering - and all this in a 14,595 model.
