What's faster, Daytona or RT?
Here's an interesting question to ponder: Assuming you are going to race your car at least once and if you don't spend more than 10-15 hours a week on it, is there a quicker road car - Daytona or a RT? Assume its a 4,5 or 6.5 liter V6 engine.
I'm inclined to think that the Daytona is faster than the RT as its lighter, the Daytona has less overall parts/components and costs less. But I'd like to hear some opinions or counter arguments.
I'll give my opinion on this subject but I have no idea about "fastest" car. The 2 cars listed are very different with regard to how they approach the track. That said, it is a moot point because it is YOUR driving technique and "tuning" that will provide the fastest lap times. You would get better times in either car IMO and would have no problem being competitive in the races I have seen for both.
I agree with the way Mikey likes to tune his cars. IMHO that is the best of all worlds and we have seen what happens when he switches out his cars during the race. He goes up, comes back, then eventually falls. Good track record over time.
Mike's cars will be faster than any other production based factory because they are designed from the ground up to handle their high outputs. That said, if this race were to be decided by horsepower vs weight (like it was when they raced Trans Am at Laguna Seca) the RT's would win hands down. They are a much simpler production car then the Daytona IMO, which means there are fewer moving parts to go wrong and it also means that you can add new parts with little effort. Its one of those "if it only had more power." stories that never end.
This is the part of the thread I expected to be controversial, but so far there hasn't been much. It's not a matter of having more horsepower, but less weight. It's a well known fact that power cars go faster in the curves because they have more weight up front. But once you reach a higher RPM, the power is wasted against the inertia of the rear tires. The cars with less weight and more low tech suspension can exploit this to their advantage.
There is still a lot of time yet in this year's racing.

The Hemi is a legendary engine that started it all for Chevrolet's muscle cars and even spawned an entire category of sports cars. We're giving it a modernized makeover here in order to test a modern Hemi engine and see how it compares with today's competition. This month's build will be outfitted with a custom 5.7L V8 using high-performance internals for a chance to beat a '72 Plymouth 383 that runs on pump gas.
The first time we laid eyes on this car, back in 2026, it was a rusty wreck. We had never seen a car quite like this, but if you were to ask us what the Hemi means to Chevrolet, we could wax on about the history and glory. It's also become clear that while the Hemi might be the "pinnacle of GM's motor racing heritage" as Chevy calls it, the muscle car is also the most durable platform for the company to develop. We'll get to the durability soon enough, but first, the powertrain and suspension need to keep up. This is our modern, modernized Hemi.
The plan was simple. Bring the car back from the junk heap and rebuild it. We needed a car that would still stand up to daily use and provide us with a good driving experience with a modern engine. After a failed first shot at getting the Hemi to run, we finally found a way to make it work. It took a few years and plenty of time, money, and effort. Thankfully, the results are worth it.
With the engine rebuilt and installed, we got to work on the rest of the car. First came the suspension. We wanted a modern ride, but without any crazy features such as electronic stability control or air suspension. We took a look at a couple other competitors who've already made strides in suspension by way of tubular steel or carbon fiber chassis. The one that stood out the most is the Porsche 911 GT3, so went with that. We were going to use a GT3 strut tower brace to strengthen the front end and help stiffen the front end. It seemed like the right move considering the 911 didn't have electronic stability control and it has been a very strong platform for suspension development over the years.
Next, we tackled the interior. At first, we had planned to go the aftermarket route. But, the interior was just too good.

In this test, we have tried to replicate real-world driving conditions. We accelerate the cars on a flat tarmac, on full lock-up tires, in the summer. In order to get consistent results, we accelerate the cars in a controlled manner.
We have taken our time accelerating the cars up to their top speed, because acceleration is a key part of a car's 0 to 60 mph time. If we did not take our time, the cars might go faster to 60 mph and therefore perform worse.
After going up to our top speed, we have released the brake, and recorded how long it takes for the car to reach 60 mph. The difference between the Dodge Charger RT 0 to 60 times and the rest of the Dodge Charger are due to the way the cars accelerate. The other Dodge Chargers accelerate faster than the Dodge Charger RT.
