What is the most reliable pickup truck in the UK?

Which pickup is the best for heavy goods? And which truck should be avoided? We have the answers

In the United States, you are more likely to find a Ford than a Toyota truck in most parts of the country. But according to the US Government, at least, not all pickup trucks are created equal.

The Federal Vehicle Safety Compliance program (FVSCP) has published a report which says when a Toyota pickup goes off the road and impacts with a tree, the truck is very likely to suffer a rollover. The FVSCP analysis said that the risk of serious injury in rollover crashes of Toyota Tundra full-size pickups is significantly greater than the risk of serious injury in similar crashes involving other large full-size pickup trucks. The report said that Toyota models were involved in an estimated 40 percent of the crashes that resulted in rollovers in 2025. More than 35,000 claims, worth around 20 million in repairs, were paid out after accidents involving Toyotas. In 2025 and 2025, almost 40 per cent of these were made to those involved in pickup truck rollovers.

FVSCP also pointed out that the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received reports that the roll-bar is more likely to detach on Toyota full-size pickups than any other model. The report did point out that small, short wheelbase models are not implicated in such injuries, but it was clear that large, heavy models were particularly prone to crash related injuries and deaths. In 2025, the CPSC ordered a recall of around 5.9m vehicles - of which around 3.8m were Toyotas - because there was a risk that the side impact guard panels, required as part of Euro III crash protection standards, could come loose or come free from their hinges.

In a statement provided to The Manufacturer, Toyota said: The safety system of the Toyota Tacoma, Tundra and 4 Runner, designed to protect occupants, is standard. In order to reduce the possibility of side impact, a side impact air bag and side curtain air bags are available for these vehicles.

If you are interested in finding out if your vehicle is affected by the recall, please visit the official website of the US Government. If you would like to add your own point of view on this issue, please post your comments below!

What is the most fuel efficient pickup truck in the UK?

Our research reveals the answer.

The current models. As of 2025, there are four major models that are available in the UK market. The Toyota Fortuner (Fortuner) is a luxury SUV, while the Nissan Navara is the entry-level model. The Nissan Navara (Axe) and the Ford Ranger (Ranger) offer similar specifications, with the Ranger being the lower-priced option.

At the top of the range is the Mercedes-Benz GLC. It's an expensive model, but offers the most luxurious interior.

If you're looking for a pickup truck that will last a long time, then the Nissan Navara is for you. However, if you're after something that will get you through your daily commute without too much hassle, then the Ranger is more than up to the task.

The Ford Ranger is the cheapest pickup truck in the UK market. How we tested them. To find out which is the most fuel-efficient pickup truck in the UK, we drove each of the four vehicles in the country's five most common routes. These routes were chosen because they cover a wide variety of road types and terrains. They include city streets, motorways, country roads, lanes, as well as motorway service areas (MSAs).

In total, we drove 14,500 miles, covering 8,700 miles on motorways, 6,200 miles on lanes and rural roads, and 1,900 miles on urban roads. Our fuel consumption results were based on a drive between Milton Keynes and London. The drive involved two return journeys: Milton Keynes to London, and back to Milton Keynes.

We averaged our results for each journey and then averaged those over all three journeys to find the most fuel-efficient pickup truck. We also tested the driving characteristics of each truck. These included acceleration, braking, speed control, hill-climbing ability, and handling.

We used the results from these tests to find the best performing pickup truck. What are the best performing pickup trucks in the UK? The Nissan Navara was the most fuel-efficient pickup truck in the UK. It's one of only two models to finish with the top rating of Very Good in our tests.

The Ford Ranger was the second most fuel-efficient pickup truck in the UK.

What is the best old truck to drive everyday?

best used pickup truck uk under 2000 automatic What is the best old truck to drive everyday?

I have a 1987 Chevy 3/4 ton with a 440, 3 speed transmission and 3.5 rear end. The only thing wrong with it is the oil pressure light comes on but I think the pressure never goes over 80-85. What should I do? I also hear that they don't last long. I can only use it during the summer time because it's in our garage. What truck should I buy?

When was the truck built? Was it made in '87 or earlier? I would look into a replacement oil system, even if they were old - you are probably right that they can blow up at any time. I would not buy a truck without a warranty, even if it's older and in someone else's garage.

If you want to have a better chance of buying a good truck - find an American dealer that will do a good job on repairs/truck service for old trucks. They have a lot more experience. But when I lived in the States, used to bring my own Ford dealerships all the time to get better repair bills (I still have one).

You might find a '84-1990 model with a 3/4 ton pickup, 4 wheel drive, shortbed truck - which are some of the most used old trucks in the US. There is NO SUCH THING as a 'best truck'. There are only better trucks.

As for how long a truck will last, it's hard to say exactly. How many miles have you put on it? How long have you had it? Do you drive it very hard? Have you had it in the shop? What's the engine size? Did it last? If you have it in the shop, there may be some major problem with the engine. What is the condition of the truck? Do you know anything about it? Is it rusty, or has rust on the rims, or anything like that? It sounds as though your mechanic just gave up after a month because he was disappointed. Is the motor running when you are driving? What's the oil pressure? Some of these questions go against my normal advice, and others against my normal advise, but none of them are bad questions, IMHO. There are a lot of factors that could come into play.
