When the 1.0 Ecoboost was introduced it was the second step in the EcoBoost line of engines. The previous generations were 1.8 L and 2.0 L with 5 to 7 mpg improvement. The new version has made a 15 mpg improvement over the older engine. There are several issues on this motor.
The 1.0 Ecoboost has less power than other engines in the class. It is rated at 230 horsepower, compared to the 290 horsepower in the most powerful V6 engines. The 1.0 produces the same torque as the previous EcoBoost 3.0 V6 at 305 lb-ft and the previous 2.0 L EcoBoost's 310 lb-ft. The new 1.0 is the lightest V6 option, weighing 2,749 pounds. The previous 1.8 has similar specs to the 1.0 engine.
A bigger problem is when you look at the fuel efficiency ratings of the newer engines. They do not stack up to the previous engines. A recent EPA report shows the 2025 2.0 EcoBoost (the previous 2.0L EcoBoost is discontinued) gets 21/28 mpg city/highway, the previous V6 has 21/32 mpg city/highway while the new 1.0 Ecoboost comes in at 20/27 mpg city/highway. At these ratings the 2.0 is more efficient than the current 1.0 Ecoboost, which is not surprising. The 2.0 was lighter by 875 pounds and produced the same amount of power as the 1.0 isn't even in the same weight class. I would rate the fuel economy on the 2025 1.0 Ecoboost between the 2010-2014 2.0L and the 2006-2009 2.
There is also a slight torque reduction between the 2.0L and 1.0L engines. This means the 2.0 will not rev as high and will take longer to accelerate because of the low torque. Also, the torque of the 1.0L is not enough to use the extra gears on the 6 speed automatic transmission in the 2025 and 2025 Fords. If the 2.0 had similar power to the 1.

The main things I look for in reliability are: How many times has the car been recalled due to a safety defect? Is there any bad history of the car from the previous owner? The Focus has a reputation for being reliable, but you really have to read reviews carefully before you buy one. I'll add my link to the bottom of this post. You might want to start at the top and work down. If a customer complains about reliability issues, they're likely to be replaced by the dealer. The first generation and second generation were built on Ford's "quality-to-cost ratio" philosophy and they have proven themselves over the years.
I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but I do think you'd be wasting your money. You'd get much better reliability from a Honda Accord.
