UK motorists averse to elbow grease
The study brings to light that a whopping 78% of UK drivers are choosing a car washing service rather than wielding the sponge and chamois and doing the job themselves. Dividing on gender lines, we see that up to 90% of women drivers are frequently using a hand car wash service instead of getting their own hands dirty, whilst this number drops with men, with 69% opting for this service.
When asked for reasons why these male motorists cleaned their own cars, the overriding opinion was that cleaning the car was actually a leisure activity, instead of a chore. Indeed, they may also be saving money, with prices for spent on cleaning products ranging from £3 to £25 on average. The average amount spent on cleaning products was £7. This is a stark contrast to the prices of car washing services, which can range from £20 to £50 a pop.
When asking for reasons that motorists give for using a hand car wash service, lack of interest in the work, laziness, and lack of time were all freely given as answers. To those thinking that these sound like the vocabulary of an average teenager, it will come as no surprise that in the survey, it is the younger drivers that are most likely to spend money on a car wash service, especially drivers in their early twenties.
