30% of motorists no longer enjoy their driving

In the new poll performed by the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), around a third of the motorists they surveyed said that driving no longer held any enjoyment or thrill for them. Guess what the top reason for this motoring malaise turned out to be? Why, the price of keeping your car fuelled of course!
Other reasons for the decline in the popularity of driving amongst a third of motorists were cited as being congestion on the roads, with over 40% of those surveyed giving this as a reason, and having less time for leisure activities, as answered by 25% of respondents.
When asked what made motorists nervous on the roads, 60% of respondents replied that other drivers stoked their impatience and uneasiness when driving. Other main reasons for being concerned on the roads included bad weather, such as rain storms and snow, and also motorway driving involving lorries.
The chief executive of the IAM, Simon Best, commented that it was easy to see how people can classify their daily drive as a chore, as congestion grows ever worse and the prices of fuel only seem to go in one direction. He added though that the roads in the UK are still some of the best to drive on, with scenery that cannot be surpassed. He went on to say that working on your actual driving skills can go a long way to make your everyday drive more enjoyable and palatable.
On the other side of the coin, the survey results show that around 40% of motorists still find their driving fun and even consider it a hobby. When it came to boast about driving prowess, over 50% responded that they thought they were better than most drivers, with a whopping 45% classing themselves in the 'very good' category.
