The enigma of new tyre laws foils UK motorists

The enigma of new tyre laws foils UK motorists
In new research that has come into light from rubber manufacturer Lanxess, it seems that more than 70% of drivers in the UK are not aware of forthcoming EU rules on the labelling of tyres, that are due to come into effect this November.

The research came in the form of a survey, managed by OnePoll, of more than 3,000 UK drivers. Of these motorists questioned, bordering on 99% showed a severe miscalculating of how important a well-conditioned tyre is to keep fuel use at a decent level.

Changing tyres is thought to enable motorists to save up to £200 a year on fuel, when calculating an annual mileage of 10,000 at 35 mpg, and fuel prices of £1.30 per litre. Lanxess is now launching a free app that helps the user to calculate the best tyres for their vehicle, in order to reduce their fuel bill.

Supplementally, tyre retailers HiQ have added information to their website to explain to users the best way to take advantage of the imminent EU rulings. Geraldine McGovern of HiQ has stated "With the legislation just 50 days away, we want to be seen as industry leaders on this topic and the first port of call for any motorist wishing to understand more."
