Peugeot 2008 production doubles due to healthy sales
The Peugeot 2008 was originally named the Urban Crossover Concept, and is a compact SUV targeting city dwellers who want something different. And it appears that demand for such a vehicle is high. Peugeot initially had set a target of 8,000 sales per year of it's new offering in the UK, but has recently announced that it has had over 16,000 orders for the car, due to be released in the UK in July.
To keep up with demand, the firm are planning to crank up the production rate at their Mulhouse plant, which is currently making 5,000 units per month. They are hoping to double this amount to 10,000 units produced per month by September, by bringing in a second shift of workers. They have also increased their sales forecasts, reckoning they will shift over 200,000 of it's 2008 in 2015.
Indeed, the sales and pre-order figures for the new vehicle go to show that the compact SUV is rapidly replacing the small hatchback in the popularity stakes. Could they be the turning point for the distressed French automotive market?
The Peugeot 2008 will be available with a number of engine and trim choices, with prices from £13,000 to £19,000, and will be out in the UK in July.
