Motorists 'careless' with motor oil
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) and Mobil have released figures from a poll of 1000 motorists, that show that a huge 96% of drivers blindly go with whatever oil their mechanic recommends for their car during a service, with only 4% actually expressing an opinion or choice of engine oil.
Further to these numbers, an additional 69% of those surveyed did not have a clue about their car's manufacturer's recommended oil brand, and a further 65% did not know what viscosity of oil was needed for their car. With these figures backing them up, the IAM and Mobil wish to extol the virtues of modern engine oils and lubricants and how they can provide better protection for your engine.
The higher the grade of the engine oil you use, the more protected your engine components are, meaning less wear and tear, and at the end of the day better levels of fuel consumption. Conversely, using the wrong kind of oil in your car can effectively ruin your engine, meaning high costs to repair or replace it.
A marketing exec for ExxonMobil, Dan McGoldrick, commented that detailed knowledge of automotive mechanics is not needed to know what type of oil is needed for your engine. With a little research and questioning of your garage's mechanics or your car's manufacturer, you can easily find the optimal lubricant for your motor. Doing so can economise both your money and your vehicle.
