Motoring sector preparing for the 62 plates

This September, just a few weeks away, the first batch of new cars bearing the 62 plate will be arriving at dealers and garages throughout the UK, in what is likely to turn into one of the busiest periods of this year so far for the automotive industry.

During the month of September alone, the SMMT are expecting car buyers to be shelling out around 4.95 billion pounds on something in the region of 330,000 newly registered cars. This month is traditionally the second busiest month for UK dealerships due to being a plate-change month (March, the other plate-change month, is usually the biggest month for dealers), and the industry hopes that revenue made during it's thirty days will count for around a fifth of the year's total trade.

UK motorists are currently spoilt for choice for new vehicles, with over 300 models on the cutting edge of technology available at present, showcasing fuel efficiency and more. Chief Executive of the SMMT, Paul Everitt, has said "Franchised dealers have a fantastic range of exciting new models on offer, each with enhanced levels of fuel efficiency, safety, comfort and affordable finance. These advantages make it a great time to buy a new car and motorists should visit their local dealer to secure a new 62-plate in September."
