13 proves to not be unlucky for car sales
In the five months spanning the start of March to the end of July, there were a total of 1,115,459 sales of 13 plate vehicles. Last month was the final selling month for new 13 plates, but sales figures have yet to be finalised by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
With this in mind, car manufacturers and dealers have been eagerly awaiting the 63 plates which come onto the market today. The SMMT are expecting up to 400,000 new car sales in September. This equates to approximately £6 billion being spent on new cars with the 63 plates.
Buying a new car has never been easier, as motorists are able to choose from hundreds of different finance deals, and take advantage of the savings that modern cars have when it comes to fuel and road tax. Indeed, the SMMT are so confident in the market at the moment, that they have amended their yearly sales forecast again. They are now predicting 2,216,000 new sales in 2013; this equates to an increase in sales of 8% over the same period 2012.
The chief executive of the SMMT, Mike Baunton, commented: "We have seen a strong performance from the new car market throughout 2013, with the number of cars registered increasing in July for the 17th successive month"
