Mini recreated by BMW
The Mini first came to market in 1959, and has been a firm favourite in the UK and also worldwide ever since. Now under the wing of German carmaker BMW since 2001, the manufacturer's revamped edition is larger than it's ancestor, in length, width and height, and features a more peaceful engine.
Production of BMW's Mini begins this week at the company's Cowley plant in Oxford. The car manufacturer is praising it's new model for it's increased interior space, safety features, high levels of finish, and it's ability to give it's driver an experience that is focused on performance. They also promise that the new Mini will be as reliable as it's predecessors.
David Cameron, the Prime Minister, also praised the brand, calling it a "classic British icon", and also of course welcomed the £750 million that BMW will be pouring into the production of the vehicle in the UK.
Due to be reaching our forecourts in spring 2014, at a starting price of £15,300, there will be three different editions of the new vehicle. First off is the standard Mini Cooper, then comes the Mini Cooper D, featuring a diesel engine, and finally the Mini Cooper S.
