Is there an UK version of Craigslist?

Not yet, but there's hope. I've been looking for a replacement to Craigslist for a while now and I've only just realised that the UK version of Craigslist (or at least the UK version of 'the Craigslist I know and love') is non-existant. For those who have never come across this: Craigslist is pretty much every online classified ad website. You can post for free items and sell everything from cars to clothes to houses to pets, as well as a whole range of other things.

So far, the closest I've found to analogue of CraigList is Gumtree, but even Gumtree does not have the listings from all areas of the UK. It's also quite expensive, and the ads are more targeted towards things you can pick up in your local town rather than the whole country.

So the question is: Does anyone know if there's an equivalent UK version of Craigslist? Replies to This Discussion. Craigslist's UK page is "craigslist.org.uk", I believe. So no there is not a UK version.

But if you have a laptop you could always download the .com version, set it up to forward to the .uk version. Or you could just use the .com version and get used to the new layout.

Oh, yeah - I forgot about the .uk thing. That was the original problem, but thanks to that I've found it.

Another thing is that, even though I didn't realise it at first, there is a small problem with the UK version of Craigslist. Basically, the site is a bit slow and laggy - I guess this is because of the sheer number of users that the site has. The whole thing is quite heavily trafficked, with up to 100k users browsing it daily. And the site doesn't keep a cache of its user database - it just loads everything fresh every time you visit.

So this means that when the server goes down, or when there's an unusually big number of users visiting, it takes a lot longer for you to get back on line, and once you are it still takes a while to load the whole page again (at least on my PC - my laptop is a bit more sluggish still).
