My friend got a flat yesterday when walking home from work, and has been sent a spare wheel by insurance company (the same one that does his car and a few other motorhomes). He has to drive to the garage (20 miles) to get it swapped, at which point he will make a claim. The garage where it was getting fixed is about 4 miles away from home, which is about 30 miles total. What is the best phone number for him to call direct? Or the easiest thing to do to stop them losing his motorhome and him getting back on the road faster is simply to tell him to call in person when he makes his claim with them in the future (if he decides to do this)?

He needs to get it replaced asap but wants to do everything else legally. How much of a hassle are they going to be with you and you don't want to make things too difficult? Does the garage have a link to his van or are you going to have to make a claim against their insurance? You say it's only 20 miles to the garage but they need to replace the wheel. I assume they would charge a full day rate, plus cost to fit, plus a percentage rate on the difference in repair costs if it is found to be more expensive to repair.

If its cheaper to replace a wheel on your friends motorhome than to repair it, then why not just buy a new wheel from a reputable dealer and ask for a discount. That way you get the whole exercise of going to see someone, swapping the wheel and returning back to normal. If it doesn't turn out to be cheaper to do that, he could even save money by returning the parts to the original dealer instead of sending it to some random garage and then having to pay the postage, or paying to have them courier them, or giving the parts back to the dealer for repairs and then having to pay the dealer for an extra fitting on top of it all.

Is there any benefit in him calling into the garage in person? As far as I can tell, they are only doing the repair on my friends motorhome anyway, and that will be done by the time he arrives at the garage.

Hi guys, I currently have a Direct line policy which is very expensive at 15.50 a day plus VAT. I need to move this over to the UK Claims Policy but it's not available to choose at the moment. The price just won't change under the UK Claims.
