Ford is due to launch its updated Focus on September 4 in a number of markets around the world. Ahead of the unveiling, we've put together a handy guide that covers the main changes you can expect to see when the new car goes on sale.

What's new for 2019? The new Focus is bigger and better than the outgoing model - with a longer wheelbase, a longer body and a higher seating position. A standard 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay now comes as standard on all versions of the new Focus, while standard safety tech includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance and speed alert. Also standard is an all-new infotainment system, Sync 3, which can be configured to be compatible with smartphone apps.

While some changes are common across the range, there are also a few different models on offer. Standard on the Titanium hatch, but optional on all other trims, is an eight-inch touchscreen with the option of smartphone integration. For those after a more sporty feel, a pair of alloy wheels comes as standard on the Titanium EcoBoost, but not on any of the other models. Also, all cars come with Ford's optional 360-degree parking camera, but the camera will not be made available for the Titanium hatch.

When will it be on sale? The new Focus will go on sale in a number of markets around the world on September 4. The top-end Titanium will go on sale first, with pricing beginning at 20,295 in the UK, while the budget Focus starts from 11,595 in the UK. Other markets will go on sale on September 12, including Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.

Which model should I buy? Most customers will choose the Titanium, with its roomier interior and generous equipment list. But you can also get a great deal from the standard Focus, which comes with many of the same features. But if you're after a stylish look, or if you're after a hatchback with a little more space, the Titanium hatch will be the best value for money.

Why is the Ford Focus being discontinued?
