How much HP does a 5.7 Hemi Ram 1500 have?
I am looking at buying a used one here in Canada. Will it have the same amount of power as the newer 5.7 Hemi Ram 1500's out of the box or is it going to need some "tuning"? Also, in what year should I be looking at getting my first Hemi Ram? I know they are not out yet in most countries but I need someone that knows to recommend me a model with a few years left on it. If you are interested in saving for a Hemi RAM (if you are going to do that ) go for the 3/4 ton because it won't cost as much and I believe it will have better performance. It also has the best warranty offered at 24 months In all honesty, it'll have more than the truck came with now, but I wouldn't call it tuned. The 5.3L that was standard until this year, would make close to 250hp right now.
I'm sure its better than it was when the truck was new, but that's about it. As for timing, it's too early to tell. If your local dealers are willing to sell you one for cheap, it's a great option to look into. Otherwise, just wait, you'll be able to get something cheaper soon!

Does anyone have data that might provide any answer to this question? Specifically: does the 2500 have 4 cylinders, or are they in reality 6? The 6 cylinder is a distinct engine. So either the 2500 Ram (or 4) has 6 cilinder engines or it doesn't. I know this is basic stuff but if people out there can do better then we'd all be grateful. Thanks!

The 5100/6300 are listed as "4.7 liter" in the Ram brochures and in the FCA document that defines what 6 cylinder means. Is a 5.7 hemi a V8 ram 1500?
I've been wanting to buy a 5. I saw that Ford is selling a 6.8 and a 5. I don't see that big of a difference between the hemi and the v8, the v8 would be a bit more powerful. I'm not sure if I want a hemi or a v8. Has anyone done a comparison? How does it compare? Would the v8 be a better deal? Would a v8 in a ram 1500 give me better power than a hemi in a dodge? What about the transmission? Will the hemi have better off road capability than the v8? Thanks!
If you are looking to drive on dirt and sand roads, then the V8 would be a better choice. If you are looking to drive on pavement, then a 5.7 would be the better choice. In my opinion, the price of a V8 is not worth it. You should get a 5.7 with a 6 speed manual.
You could do a lot of things right and still have problems. If you don't understand what you're doing, you will have problems. You should understand the basics of how a vehicle operates before you take it on a back road.
The biggest issues I have with buying a car from a big dealership, are the quality of service, the cost of service and the dealer's reputation. For example, if your engine blows up, it's very easy to get the wrong part and end up with a rebuilt engine when you need an engine, not a rebuilt engine. It's the same if you get stuck on the side of the road. You need help, but the mechanic that pulls up, may be the guy that gave you the "dealer warranty".
As for the cost of the service department, if you need a new part, it's very likely that the dealer won't let you just order it and have it delivered to you. They will insist that you come into their shop to get it installed. The dealer will probably charge more than a manufacturer would charge.
Is the 5.7 L V8 Hemi a good engine?
I've been a big fan of the 5.7 L V8 Hemi since the day I got my C5 Z06, and the 6.2 L V10 is even better. I think both engines are amazing, especially the V10 as it's almost like the first true V8 V10. However, since there are many V8s out there, I'm wondering if the 5.7 L V8 Hemi is any good? Is it an engine that I'd want to buy? I've owned 2 Camaros with the 5.7 L V8 Hemi, and I liked the power, but it never gave me a problem. Is it one of the better V8s out there? Thanks for the help!
The Hemi is a very underrated engine.it's very smooth and has great mid range torque and lots of high RPM horsepower. It's also fun to drive. I don't understand why this engine is so downplayed in the GM lineup.for those who like fast cars, the Hemi is the one that has to be driven.
The 5.7 was very fun in the early years of the V8 revolution. And it's still fun to drive now. I've owned a few different 5.7s over the years, the 2 from my C5, a '96 C4 and a 99 Mustang GT. I like the 5.7's best in the C5. The 5.7 is one of the coolest cars I've driven. The V8's and 6.2's just can't compete with the Hemi's power potential.
