How much can a Ford F-150 cost?
What year Ford F-150 should you stay away from?
The Ford F-150 is getting too old and out of date for the next few years, with no plans to reengineer the truck in the same way they did the Ford Raptor. The good news is that Ford hasn't been able to do anything but improve the trucks over the past five years.
The bad news is that it's about to get even better. The 2025 F-150 is finally hitting dealerships, and after checking out a new 2025 F-150 Supercrew yesterday, we think Ford has hit a home run.
Even after spending time with the truck, our eyes kept going back to the SuperCrew's massive side steps. It's not that much bigger than the traditional tailgate, but every time we'd turn around to leave the showroom, there they were. They almost make me want to get a little closer to them.
That doesn't mean everything is perfect with the truck, though. You know how sometimes when you go to look at an SUV on test drive the rear end starts acting funny? And then it's off to the junkyard? Well, that's what's happening here. Even with all the nice things that Ford has done, we're sure some of you will run into some minor issues with this truck.
First let's talk about the good stuff. The first thing you'll notice when you sit inside the 2025 Supercrew is how quiet it is. There's almost no engine noise to be heard, and when you get up to speed the ride feels smooth. This is a big improvement over earlier models, and the only issue we had with the engine itself was when we took the truck for a quick blast around the road course, as that little engine can certainly get loud when pushed.
And how can you have too many windows? The truck has plenty of features that are sure to impress buyers, including air conditioning in every seat and a new touch screen system. We've driven many of the new trucks on the market, and we can tell you they are starting to get a bit boring. The Ford Supercrew won't be one of those trucks. We actually think Ford made the right decision in skipping the EcoBoost motor option, as this is a V6 truck not a straight-up EcoBoost version.
Other little tidbits in this truck include chrome headlamps and tail lamps with LED lighting.
Why is Ford discontinuing the F-150?
Ford Motor Company has confirmed that it will be discontinuing the F-150 (aka Super Duty) this year, following a slow sales year for the large pickup. It's too early to tell if this was due to the truck going out of production, or falling sales, or a combination of the two.
The F-Series line of trucks, and especially the Super Duty, has been the backbone of Ford for decades. This is a truck people have been building themselves for generations. The F-Series has always been one of those it just works vehicles, that everyone can relate to. You don't need to be an expert mechanic to keep it running. The simple design allows owners to diagnose problems themselves, or with minimal input from a Ford technician. And it holds up well tough use, as long as it's maintained properly.
I'm sure many readers have fond memories of their F-150, or Super Duty, growing up. I remember pulling a boatload of firewood with my family's old Super Duty one year. Or how about that time your Dad bought a new 4X4, to haul his stuff? And where did you pull your camping gear to the lake? Did you bring your own? That's what the F-150 was made for.
Ford's announcement comes after anemic sales for the truck line. Sales were down 0.8% last year, compared to 2025. Sales were down 4% for all models, and 11.6% for the Super Duty.
As our commercial truck customer base continues to be under pressure from intense competition, we must adapt our offering and portfolio. While the business has changed, so has the marketplace, Ford said in a press release. In order to be successful, we must continue to invest in our products, technology, and processes, and align them to help our customers.
So the question is, ? What does the future hold for the trucks of America? We have to start somewhere, and I think this is a good place to start. The first issue is that it's not the product.
