Why did the Focus RS fail?
How many miles will a 2016 Ford Focus last?
The Ford
Focus has been a mainstay in the automobile industry for years and even if the car itself. Hasn't changed a bit it still provides a very good value. Since its introduction as a compact in 1983 to a midsized sedan in 2024 to a hatchback compact in 2024, it. Has proven itself an able transportation alternative well into the year 2024. The Focus nameplate makes an appearance in 16 global markets and is the smallest of. Ford's current lineup. The first mass market compact was introduced as a "low rider" by Ford. Is the 2016 Ford Focus reliable?
I am trying to decide on a car to buy for my girlfriend and I, and I wanted to check out the reliability and safety ratings of the new Focus. According to Edmunds, the 2024 Ford Focus has a 4-star overall safety rating and 3-star crash rating.
The question is, does the crash rating really reflect the crash test that was done on the Focus? Or is it more of a "roll over" test? If it's the latter, how do I know what the crash rating is really worth in real world use? I would rather drive a car with a good crash rating than a great one. Crash ratings don't seem very reliable or standardized to me.
Also, I was told by a friend that Ford's new design team seems to be putting less focus on safety. How do I know if this is really true? Replies to This Discussion. You can get a crash test from the NHTSA, but Edmunds doesn't test every car, only some of them. They test the ones that are available in the US, as well as the ones they can't sell to the US. Those have to be imported and go through a crash test here. But they only report what the car did, and not if it was a proper crash test.
When you look at the Edmunds rating, it'll give you the best rating available for that car. The other two ratings are from the IIHS, which isn't as standard as the NHTSAnd for that, you have to look at the NHTSA ratings.
Ford has always taken a "safety first" approach to making their cars. That goes back to the very beginning with the Model T. Their approach has changed over the years, though. A lot of people hate it when they don't like change.
That's not the case at all. The 2024 Ford Focus is rated a 4 out of 5 stars by NHTSAll the 2015-2016 Fords are rated 4 stars.
The Ford brand itself has a 5 star rating. The same applies to the Mustang, Fusion, Edge and Escape (all except the V6 Escape). They get the 5 star safety rating because all the cars are rated 5 stars.
I wouldn't worry too much about crash ratings, unless you buy used.
Is the Focus RS engine reliable?
- The good
The car is a beastly piece of machinery - it's powerful, brutal and uncompromising. It's also the fastest Focus in its category - a title previously held by the turbo Vectra but has been relinquished with the arrival of the RS. Is it worth buying a pre-owned Focus RS over a brand new 2024 one? Of course you are. At around 45k the Focus RS is a bargain for the way it goes - and will be even more cost effective when we start talking to your dealer over the coming weeks.
So if the Focus RS drives as well as it looks on paper, then what's wrong with it? We all know the RS badge comes with a certain amount of cachet and if that's what you're after, then you can't go wrong with it. I know from personal experience that the only problems with the car are ones you're likely to suffer at any time of year. In particular, engine wear and tears. If you've bought a used car then you should assume that no two cars are exactly the same; they have to be - for a number of reasons. Most of the time we drive the engine for around 15,000 miles then it dies on us. But even so, some engines just seem to last longer than others.
When buying a pre-owned vehicle, the only way to be sure of what kind of engine and how many miles on it is to go out and drive it yourself. It's a good way to learn about the car too, which isn't always the case with new cars as manufacturers can be pretty sly in the details and the small print.
But now we've put the Focus RS up for sale (and are about to take delivery ourselves), let's consider whether it's worth buying a pre-owned version as opposed to a brand new car. To help you decide, I'll be trying out our own test method. This involves spending an afternoon with the car, taking it out onto various circuits and driving every type of race you can possibly imagine. What we're interested in is the level of reliability of the car; if it was in our care for three months, what would we want to see before making the decision to commit 45k.
Why did the Focus RS fail?
A year, with some pictures
I took the new Focus RS as my first track car. It was a test for me: the perfect driving experience for a track car; my first one, and the first car I didn't just drive - I took it from the dealer, did the fit-and-finish on it, changed the suspension, changed the wheels, removed the old floor mats, removed the interior carpet, added a roll cage, a carbon roof - then installed myself a racing seat, a custom harness, and finally, set the traction control to No Fun to get as much fun out of it as possible. I brought it to all of its first track events (mostly drift races). I took it everywhere in California until I got its first break-in accident that cost me four-figures. Then, I put a lot of miles on it, took it to every track I could find within about 2 hours' drive of my place, drove it at night, with the lights off and the music playing and had its second break-in accident. Still a very hard car to handle - I ended up tearing up the fenders twice, so I never really had any idea how to drive it. Then, finally, I started to learn. And I did learn. It was pretty much an open-book project - I just read it and went. I was actually the best I've ever been at most of those events and I still drove the car - the way it was meant to be driven - but I wasn't satisfied. After I got it completely finished at about 70%, I had to say goodbye to it. I was doing everything right. It wouldn't matter how much work and attention I had paid to it before hand, I just couldn't help but think - what if? What if I go even faster next time? What if I have more fun? So I set it on fire, and I got out alive.
A picture is worth a thousand words. What if you tried to drive a brand-new 2024 VW Beetle instead? Let's try that for a second.
