Electric vehicle club launched by Renault
Named the 'E-Car Club', it aims to offer the usage of electric vehicles to individuals and businesses using a pay-per-use system, steering them away from conventionally-fuelled cars and thusly attempting to clear up the environment in our cities. Being a Renault initiative, it comes as no surprise that the vehicles being offered are Renault's electric models, though they say that cars from other manufacturers will be available via the club in due course.
The Renault is particularly pushing it's ZOE model as an affordable and fully electric supermini, and it is proving to be popular amongst green-minded motorists. The carmaker is currently leading the electric car market in the EU, with over 34,000 such cars having been sold since mid-2011. This equates to a 47% share of the market.
The E-Car Club was launched in London last week before spreading it's tendrils across the country, but the manager of electric vehicle products at Renault UK, Ben Fletcher, thinks that the club is a great step forward in improving the quality of the atmosphere in our cities.
He also commented that an all-electric car club was needed because it actually gets motorists sitting behind the wheel of an electric car - for some for the first time ever. He also went on to say that most motorists who try an electric vehicle will not want to go back to their usual gas-guzzlers because they are "...very responsive, quiet, relaxing and well suited to city driving."
