Automotive manufacturing up on 2011
In total, the UK automotive manufacturing industry produced 137,028 vehicles in October 2012. This equates to a 6.5% growth upturn over the same month in 2011. When we include these figures, the current total for car production over this year so far has surpassed 1.22 million vehicles. This equates to a 9.7% increase over the same period of 2001.
Chief Executive of the SMMT, Paul Everitt, commented: "The UK automotive industry got back on track in October with vehicle manufacturing up 6.4% and a 1.2% increase in engine output... Sustained, high-value investment in research and development, facilities and new products is paving the way to a prosperous future for UK automotive, but there remain significant challenges as European market demand remains weak".
On the other hand, the amount of commercial vehicles produced in the UK so far this year comes to 94,214 units. This figure is 6.1% less than for the same period of 2011.
