Why is AXA no longer doing travel insurance?
On September 12th, 2025, AXA announced that they would be discontinuing their travel insurance policy in 2025. I'm assuming this is because they have a new "travel insurance" product they are promoting and it's the same insurance that they offer to other clients. I'm not sure if this is true, but I did see the announcement in their press release:
AXA said it will discontinue its travel insurance product and focus on its new travel insurance product, which will launch in January 2025. We have decided to focus on our new product to give consumers better travel insurance choices at a value for money price, said Patrick Chappuis, president of AXA International, AXA's travel insurance unit. We are convinced that consumers will welcome the convenience of purchasing travel insurance in one place, with one price and one payment method, directly from the Internet.
It's certainly true that AXA has some of the best deals on travel insurance in comparison to the other insurers. The question I have is, why did they stop offering travel insurance? Was it because their previous policy wasn't working? What were the results of the current policy? How did that compare to the competition? I'm genuinely interested in the answer to this question. Is this an industry issue or is it something specific to AXA? I have had travel insurance with AXA for many years now. I like that they don't offer annual renewable terms. That means you can get a new policy at any time and cancel if you feel like it without penalty. Also, when the policy is up, you get to keep the same premium until a new one issued. They offer a policy without medical coverage (and I've never needed it) as well as a policy with emergency medical coverage and a policy with excess medical coverage. The premium is more expensive for the medical coverage but I feel much better knowing that I will be covered if I need it. The policy has always worked well for me. I really don't like those calls, though I admit I have accepted that it's part of the business.
I think AXA stopped offering travel insurance because their coverage was not sufficient to compete with the others.
Does AXA do travel insurance?
A few days ago, I asked a fellow travel enthusiast if she has a travel insurance policy with AXA (as that's what my policy is with them). I had a look online and thought that there were a lot of questions about who had AXA, where it was bought, and whether it was a cheap one to compare to. It seemed there was some confusion in the marketplace and I guess I have to add my foolishness to the mix. This makes life easy for me and I'll now be able to answer your question here (for the next 6 months) but I wanted to get a lot of responses from the other visitors here on TripeWeb as I feel it would be an invaluable resource for you when making your decision about AXA, so please do email me your comments!
So before I go into the subject in more detail, here are my thoughts as this has just popped up on their web page: We like good information but also make no bones about asking for a discount for you on the cost of our products. We want to see you keep coming back, with a return to using our own policies and our service. So why not try these new policies for 6 months and then decide.

What about trips of any distance, and trips in Australia and New Zealand? Can it cover for single travellers going abroad for example? Will it cover the whole world? 2) Does AXA cover any medical conditions (eg I have asthma and am forced to take antibiotics)? Can a doctor prescribe? 3) What about loss or theft of luggage? How much coverage per kg of goods does it offer, and what is the maximum value for each case of goods covered? 4) How soon after purchase can you change or cancel the policy? They don't give much information.
