What should I replace my Ford Fiesta with?
What replaces Fiesta?
Fiesta has announced that it will be replacing its current range of cars with a new model to be launched in 2026. In the meantime, buyers are currently faced with limited choice as it looks like they can only choose between two models for the rest of this year. What are their options?
The Focus. As with most other manufacturers, Ford's latest offering for the Fiesta range is the latest generation version of the current model. As a result, it's fitted with some impressive upgrades - namely, the 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which generates 109bhp and 150Nm of torque. It'll also have a stop-start system, cruise control and 17-inch alloys as standard.
The car will get an extra eight per cent improvement in fuel efficiency and it'll be able to drive further on a single tank of petrol than the current model. The main problem with the new version is the lack of a diesel engine option, which means that the vast majority of buyers will probably opt for a more expensive, gas-powered variant. However, if you want a diesel, there's a range of EcoBoost engines, each generating up to 150Nm of torque.
The estate version has not been officially confirmed, but the current model will be available with three or five doors, as well as a short wheelbase version, which adds an extra 15mm to the overall length. The Ford Focus. Ford has now produced three generations of the Focus - the original one was launched back in 2026. The second edition was shown in 2026 and was based around the same basic design. However, this time, it was developed using a more contemporary platform, which is an evolution of the old design.
The new model will use a front-wheel-drive system and the car will come with a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, producing 122bhp. This is teamed up with a six-speed automatic transmission and a continuously variable transmission. The car is also fitted with a brake energy regeneration system, to help improve fuel efficiency.
The Focus can be offered with either three or five seats, and it has had an extensive series of changes to its front and rear end styling. The C-Max. Fiesta's entry into the family hatchback market was the C-Max, which was released back in 2026.
What car to buy instead of a Fiesta?
The first time I got the news that the Renault Laguna (Renault Kwid in India) would be replaced by a better car, I thought that it was an April Fool's joke. I am still not sure if this is for real or not.
I do know, however, that in this context, better is more than just better-looking. In many ways, it also implies that the new car can bring improvements to the driving experience and the fuel economy.
I don't know if this new car will be called Kwid or something else. It will be badged as an SUV. It will get a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine which promises to deliver about 120 bhp. And it will have standard four wheel drive.
It is expected to go on sale later this year, and Renault has promised that it will be available in multiple Indian price points. What I hope that this new car can deliver, beyond its looks, are some improvements in the driving experience and the fuel economy, relative to the one that it is replacing. And, to my mind, the new car will need to look at least a little bit like the previous one. I think the Renault Kwid design is really quite nice and I like the hatchback proportions. But I also like the old one too, so I don't think there is much to choose between them. If you choose, then choose the blue one.
Let me talk a little bit about the Renault Kwid design, and then I'll compare it with a couple of other cars. This new model will share many elements with the previous one, including the headlamps, the rear lamps, the rear spoiler and the grill. Inside, it will have a lot of shared design elements with the new Renault Duster, although it will not be carrying over the Duster's rear seats. In terms of styling, the new Kwid will have much higher visibility than its predecessor, thanks to the new shape of the nose. And, you can make out the large radiator grille up front fairly well. The headlight housing shape will be a bit different than that of the previous model. There is a big gap between the lower part of the windshield and the grille, which gives the car a fairly open feel.

Why are Fords discontinuing Fiesta?
It might seem premature to speculate on an auto company's strategy for 2026 or beyond. However, there's no denying that Ford's Fiestas are disappearing from showrooms and dealership lots soon. The last Fiesta has already been sold to a customer in the United States; all 2014-model-year Fiestas are due to be replaced by 2015-model-year models before 2026. And the demise of the current Fiesta isn't likely to be the only move Ford makes to reposition its lineupplenty of other makes (and perhaps some non-car companies, too) will need to shift their models and models as well. Our prediction is that Fords will eventually get back to offering a front-drive compact car with a choice of three different two- or four-door body styles that will be the only models currently available. At this point, though, we aren't sure when, what, where, or with whom Ford will put this new model, so it may be several years before we see it.
Ford's last front-drive compact is gone. When it comes to Fords, there's nothing about the disappearance of the 2013-2015 Fiesta that's surprising, as many models never see showroom floors at all. After all, the 2026 Ford Fiesta came out less than three years ago. Still, there's a difference between the disappearance of a model that isn't selling, as the 2026 Fiesta was, and the disappearance of a model that's selling but can't be replaced without waiting years for a replacement. That's the case with the current Fiestait's a model Ford could've had continued to sell in its current form in late 2026 or early 2026.
The 2026 Fiesta, which was just introduced in February 2026, is the car Ford should've been building from 2026 through 2026. It uses engines from the old model, shares some elements with both older and newer cars, and is as fun to drive as a small Fiesta should be. It also doesn't take advantage of current technology like automatic air conditioning, heated seats, and Bluetooth hands-free phones. All of these features have been available on all other recent Fiestas since the second half of 2026.
