Ford Focus 2026 Review. Performance. What about performance? This is going to be our first drive review of Ford Focus since we have a brand new 2026 model! We were excited to get the latest version of Ford's budget hot hatchback with our colleague Dan from the Jalopnik family out in the freezing winter conditions of Scotland's hilly north. Let's start with the engine. Ford has always been very conservative in how much the official spec says an engine can perform or what actual output is from the different engine models. I found this particularly frustrating when I used to write technical vehicle reviews and could have done with more information in many cases. But this is why we're going to take a more practical approach than any other magazine when it comes to reviewing.
Firstly, the old 2.0 l four cylinder was fine but when replaced by the current Focus 2.0 l five speed it was clear to us that the engine's power did not drop off as quickly as other manufacturers would have you believe and also that the engine feels smoother and easier to rev. Sure, it's good but Ford isn't just going to cut an engine's lifespan if they've already got it in their cars and also make it seem like they've added little to no extra oomph for very little money.
Is the 2026 Focus RS real?
With no word on pricing, we may never know if this Focus RS is a reality, but if it comes to fruition it could be the first RS-branded Focus since the E46 came out. So far all RS and RS-branded Focus have been rear-wheel drive, so if you want to see an FWD RS it'll be a long wait.
The focus RS was rumored to be launched in Paris and if they're actually going to make this car we could see more info before it's officially announced. The car will have some sort of hybrid system so it could possibly be a replacement for the i3 which is expected to be discontinued What is this ? A new car one side and a new sportscar on the other side ? I'm confused. No kidding. A new car, a new sportscar, and a new "muscle car" (which has been a joke for years) in one vehicle. No wonder the car industry is in such a decline. And as far as I know the Focus RS will use the same basic platform as the Mazda6 GT Sport.
The Focus RS was rumored to be launched in Paris and if they're actually going to make this car we could see more info before it's officially announced. The car will have some sort of hybrid system so it could possibly be a replacement for the i3 which is expected to be discontinued I wouldn't call it a "hybrid system." It has a 1.8 liter turbo 3 cylinder motor paired with an electric motor. That's about all the "hybrid" part comes from. And that's where the Focus RS gets its power.
Hybrid doesn't necessarily mean hybrid but I am not sure if that is what it is, but I'm assuming it is.
How much does a Ford Focus RS cost?
Depending on the trim level, you can expect to spend between 20,000 and 25,000 on the all-wheel drive version of the Focus RS. However, if you're looking for a bit more power, the Focus RS400 is also available, with an extra 13,000 over the base Focus RS.

It has a 2.3-litre turbocharged engine that produces 345bhp and 395lb ft of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds. The performance figures are impressive, but the biggest claim of the Focus RS is probably the fact that it can accelerate from 0-62mph in less than 8 seconds.
But where is it best to buy? Ford Focus ST Review - An Electric Car Engine. One of the ways Ford is able to justify the price for the Focus RS over an entry-level compact coupe is by pointing out the Focus ST has a turbocharged 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine producing 290 horsepower at 6,100 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. Its 0-60 mph acceleration is 6.9 seconds flat.
However, in a Focus RS, it makes sense that it comes standard with Ford's 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine. It produces 365 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque at 2,800 rpm. Although it produces more horsepower and torque than the Focus ST, it runs about 25 percent slower than the faster model.
However, if the engine is only part of the fun, there is much more: It provides that electric motor you want in a car, something similar to the Focus ST's Electric Power Steering system, giving even more of the Focus RS' fun factor. The electric assist on the Focus RS goes up to 636 foot-pounds of torque compared to the 390 foot-pounds of torque produced by the Focus ST electric motor. It can accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph in 3. In between those two figures, the power of the Focus RS electric motor is transmitted through the six-speed automatic transmission.
The electric power steering system is the reason for the extra cost and weight of the Focus RS: it makes the chassis of the Focus RS easier to move, especially in tight turns and on uneven surfaces. When a driver presses the gas pedal in a normal, controlled manner, a switch occurs that energizes the electric power steering system. Without this switch, the electric motor will not work, meaning the car would not have an electric power steering system.
